He didn't say Mexico would cut a check. His whole shtick was I will get the money for the wall over time through a better trade deal. He said it during the debates.

It's arguable as to whether that happened or not, but USMCA seems to be at least a tad better than NAFTA. And the wall is going up in certain areas and would be complete in another term.

Yes, Mexico has paid for the wall and we are tired of winning, oh, the winning.

    This.

He's been more tolerable to me than GWB - -who has since been canonized by the left.
+ I am pretty sure neither the Clintons or Bushes are any more caring to the poor than are the Trumps, they just hid their disdain better. They all look down on the less fortunate, lets not pretend otherwise.

Not talking about being a role model. I don't give a about whether the president is a role model.
So what's your beef? Before he was elected 1st time he said "grab them by the pussy" and beat a woman who was seen largely as a victim of a womanizing husband. Do you think Trump's bifurcated outlook on success somehow changes the color of his outward projection to those who didn't vote for him in the 1st place, never mind those who did?

So you are the official trumpsplainer? I did not read anywhere trump had selected you for this role. Below are his own words:

“I would build a great wall, and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me, and I’ll build them very inexpensively, I will build a great, great wall on our southern border. And I will have Mexico pay for that wall,” Trump said in his June 16, 2015 speech at Trump Tower. “Mark my words.”

There are many of us who are not exactly wearing MAGA hats. We tolerate him because he's a better option than what the other side has to offer.
You think nothing cold be better than it is right now with different leadership?

Exactly. Trump is a flawed person who does not hide his sh1t nearly as well as other politicians.

Because he's not a politician. He's accustomed to the concept of president being in charge of everything, and he's not good with the three branches of government, wants to be over them all. He's like using a shop hammer to install trim work, but sometimes the shop hammer beats the alternative of just debating whether or not to install trim.

So know we need to wear “trump colored glass” and be cool with his flaws? We elect politicians not saints. Trump’s faults are just too much and he has not done much to out weigh them.

My beef is that thinking poor people are losers (not my words) has an obvious impact on actual policy.

I think someone like Rand Paul, an actual doctor, would have handled COVID better.

And he was my #1 choice in the primaries, but flopped in the debates.

Why hasn't he yet? The only progress on the wall since he became president is 300 miles that mostly consisted of existing wall being reinforced.

Face it, the wall was a grift intended to stoke enthusiasm from the "They took our jerbs!" crowd. Trump never had any idea of ever building it, and neither did Bannon.

No, you didn't explain how Mexico would pay for the wall.
Or why no progress has been made on the wall for the last 3.5 years.

Trump had 2 years of complete legislative control to fund the wall. He could have done it through reconciliation to avoid needing a super majority, but his priority was using reconciliation to give himself a tax cut, since that's what he actually cares about.

There's a reason he didn't make any demands about wall legislation until after the Dems took the House, the wall is nothing more than a wedge issue he'll selectively use when he can blame the Dems for not getting it done.

Bannon saw the wall as the grift it was and cashed in on it.

No it's not. There's been 300 miles of wall built in his 1st term and the majority of it is reinforcing existing wall. There's been little to no new wall added.

How is USMCA getting us money that NAFTA didn't get? Be specific.

Of course Trump never did. That's why he waited for the house to go home for the solstice holidays right before the new Democratic house majority was set to take over to pick a fight with congress. He could have easily gotten its funding through reconciliation in FY2019 since he had all of October, November, and most of December to do it with the GOP house and GOP senate. But instead he wanted to stick it to federal workers by shutting the government down for more than a month over something he didn't give a about anyways.

I'm not sure if he could have gotten it done through reconciliation in FY2019 with the midterms so close and congress worried about elections, but he could have easily done it through FY2018 reconciliation. He elected to give himself a tax cut instead and also have the individual mandate reduced to $0 so a new uncons utionality argument could be introduced in court to gut Obamacare.

He never wanted to build the wall, he wanted to give himself a tax cut and to people with pre-existing conditions.

McCain blew up McConnell's FY2018 reconciliation vote though.

Even if you make the midterm argument he still had most of November and most of December to get it done in FY2019, but he didn't give a because building the wall was just a campaign slogan.

Didn't the tax cuts and jobs act get passed through FY2018 reconciliation?
