Yeah I'm talking about 2.9.1. I currently have 2.8.
I assume that you are talking about 2.9.1 ... Which version see you on now?
Yeah I'm talking about 2.9.1. I currently have 2.8.
Not exactly. Any apps you have now will run the same. But this will give you access to tablet specific apps that won't run on gingerbread but run on honeycomb (and ICS).
Yes, you would need to do a full wipe, there were many changes between 2.8 and 2.9. (if you were on 2.9 deodexed, you would not need to do a full wipe).
A little off topic but I have an EVO 4G. I was thinking about rooting. Don't really know I'd it will be worth it. I'm comfortable putting Android on my tabler but a phone seems a little riskier.
Back to the tablet. Can I download Rom manger from the app store and use that on the tablet. I wanna check out different Roms for the tablet and not just Cynaogen and xron. Although those are regarded as the best.
If you put a custom ROM on your phone you could tether with it and you could have better battery life. Those are the two main benefits for me.
It's the same, I wouldn't fret over it.
Rooting the phone is no big deal and there are some major advantages (biggest being the battery). As far as the tablet goes, there are only 2 ROMs and you just named them. ROM manager, as far as I know, doesn't support the touchpad.
rooted/unlocked my bootloader/installed CWM and I'm now flashing CM9 on my Photon tonight. I was nervous the first time (ask Drachen he got 290480948 PMs) but now its easy as pie. This if the fourth phone I've rooted (first bootloader I've unlocked)
Give us a quick review of CNET when you get a chance.
Edit: CM9... There you go.

auto correct for cwm?
I flashed vB2.9.1 last night and it worked fine. It was at the point where I was restoring my apps with anium backup and a few apps wouldn't restore. It would just sit there saying "working". So i had to force close anium backup. The apps that wouldn't install were adobe reader and Amazon MP3 I believe. I was able to get a few on, say about 6, then decided to go back to 2.8. Not to sure what the problem was. anium backup shouldn't take that long to recover it should it?
I guess tonight I'll be rooting my EVO 4G. I believe I should start here ?
I'm pretty sure I'll be using this wiki link also. http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php? le=HTC_Evo_4G
I have had that happen every once in a while. I just FC anium, then redo the batch without that app in there (it has never happened with an important app). If I felt that I really needed it, I would just go reinstall it manually with the market.
When I was on 2.9.1 I tried to run the batch from the menu button but none of the batches came up. I had to manually restore them. When I went back to 2.8 I was able to run the batch with out a problem. I may try it again tonight. I was messing around with it after the Spurs game and didn't have much time to work on it.
Is CyanogenMod-7 the best for the EVO? Seems like a little more work than flashing the touchpad.
It has been a while since I rooted my wife's evo, so I can't remember (and it may have changed), but I have found that most of the time the instructions look intimidating, but once you read through each of them and take it one step at a time, that they are actually pretty simple.
Also, did you purchase anium backup pro?
If so, you have to download that pro key everytime you wipe and flash (even if the rom comes with anium backup since that will only be the free version). The difference being, when you run a batch restore in the free version you have to hit install for each app and that gets annoying.
I just have the free version. May look into the paid version tonight. When I get off of work I'll be messing around with the TP and Evo. Hopefully it goes smoothly.
this is neat:

CM9 was cool. I took it off pretty fast because so much still doesn't work but I wanted to check it out. Best feature was having all of my apps automatically install (kinda like anium but so much better). Look forward to having a beta version. The alpha was a bit too buggy still.
I'm actually probably just going to stick with a rooted stock version (assuming battery life is acceptable) until CM9 is better.

If I'm using anium back up to back up my apps on my EVO, it says I need root privileges to back up first. Am I able to root then back up? Or that wont work.
Yes you can gain root without wiping, then back up your apps.
is there still not a default backup plugging in or otherwise for android phones?
Got it rooted. Now flashing CyanogenMod. Hope it works. haha. Had a little trouble with su binary. I wasn't able to boot into recovery. I just had to update recovery and update su binary.
As far as plugging in, maybe. I try to avoid doing so, so if it is there,I don't know about it. As far as otherwise, Google market remembers the as you've downloaded, but a large portion of my apps were not downloaded from Google market.
Thats what I was talking about with ICS. It added everything I had on my phone prior to installing ICS automatically. Worked awesome. Very few of my apps come from outside the market. A few from Amazon since they havve a free one each day.
