If you're an American, I don't see how you are not rooting for TEAM USA. Especially with al the anti-american sentiment and criticism from around the world towards the USA lately. Especially after the USA being laughed at for coming home with bronze in 2004.

    Patriotism.

    GO USA!!!!!!!!!!!
Sports do not = politics. A gold medal does not mean your country is better at everything, just that sport. Winning a basketball game does not solve the worlds problems. It is a great achievement for the American game of basketball but all it does in the face of anti-American sentiment is cause more friction. It also gives lame ass people reason to spout off about patriotism and act like their country is superior at everything.

The only reason it is good is because it brings people together from all parts of the world to cheer for a common interests, sports. It shows that even if you are in the midst of war or hate, you can pause for a moment to realize that we are the same as humans, we just have different beliefs and values. We do have ties that bind however as well.

It is not meant to separate countries from one another, it is meant to draw them together in fair compe ion and let them sort it out.

I don't think Argentina has it this time around. MAYBE, they'll grow in the preliminary round and build an actual solid team by the elimination round. The good is that they don't have quit on them, but at the same time, the new coach seems to have little authority, and both the '04 PG and his subs ute have retired from the national team. The new PG is nowhere near as good.
I actually think, right now, Spain is probably the team that can give Team USA a run for their money. I'm glad they're actually on the same group in preliminary compe ion and I can't wait to see that game.

Even elite overseas teams like argentina don't stand a chance against this USA team....they're on a mission this year son, ain't no stoppin det No Limit Tank.
if u are from the US, which I am assuming you are.....then Argentina isnt overseas. Other than the Panama Canal, it is all land from Canada to Argentina, well with a few rivers mixed in.

    Good one.

I'm pretty torn on this question. At first I was going to go for Argentina but now I'm not so sure. The US team screwed over Pop (he was the next in line before they went with Coach K). The US team cut Bowen early on. Not that I think Bowen is one of the best 12 players in the US but if you invite him, you know what you are going to get. Inviting him just to cut him was lame. On top of that, the Argentina teams plays beautiful basketball and the last time Manu won Gold, he came back and completed the best year of his career.

But now a few factors have me leaning away from Argentina. First of all, after watching Argentina play, I don't think they have a shot. Any color medal would be a good outcome for their team. Their major problem is Argentina's point guards are HORRIBLE. The rest of their team is good but the team really misses Sanchez and Montecchia. They were both borderline NBA talents who could play D and were clutch. Prigioni is extremely overrated and has gotten way worse in the last two years. Porta is like if Nick Van Exel ate Beno Udrih and then tore his ACL. Unless Ginobili plays point or Prigioni finds his form ASAP, Argentina is toast.

On top of that, the international media has gotten pretty damn annoying and overconfident. As much as USA Basketball screwed over Pop and Bowen, it would be pretty nice to see the US dominate and have the rest of the world STFU.

I'm undecided at this point but leaning slightly toward the US team.

If we want to see the floodgates open on Euro clubs raiding the NBA for talent, cheer for someone not named team USA. If you want to send a message to the world, root for Team USA to win by 40 every night.

And yeah, the Olympics are corrupt but damnit root for your country.

Just imagine if France was there somehow someway, ducks wouldn't have to worry about it because Tony would pull a Frenchman and surrender

It really won't matter because here is how it will unfold:

If the US wins games by 20+
The US Haters: "You are supposed to win by that much and you are all arrogant"

If the US wins games by 20 or less
The US Haters: "Yeah well you should have won by more and you are all arrogant"

    If the US loses games:
The US Haters: "Ha...we told you the world has caught up to you and you are all sore losers"

No matter what happens, the US team will not get the credit for winning games or playing well that fans of other countries DEMAND of their team for winning a game or playing one close.

I hope Manu and Oberto stay healthy and as long as they are not playing the US, I hope they win.

I'm not a Spurs fan but Manu is one of my favorite basketball players. I hope Argentina plays well but if they face Team USA, I'm definitely rooting for the Americans. I don't have a problem with any of the American players. Sure, Carmelo is a punk, Kobe is an egomaniacal bag, and Jason Kidd was physical with his wife, but I'm sure there are plenty of athletes in the Olympics or otherwise with secrets of disgusting behavior and baggery. I'm not rooting for individual players on the team or their personalities or what happens in their personal lives. I'm rooting for the team as a whole to perform well and win. I agree that the Olympics are not all about patriotism, but it's still the biggest common denominator when there are no other factors. I root for Team USA basketball.

Go Argentina!!! Everyone (whott, mrspurs, etc) can shut the up about patriotism. If America is the land of the free then that means you're free to root for any team you choose. I've been living in the USA my whole life, and in everything other than mens basketball I'm going for Americans. But this is the only sport where I actually know who the I'm supporting, and outside of Dwight, James, and Prince, I could care less. And the only players I know on Arg is Manu, Fab, Scola, and Nocioni, and I respect, as well as like, those four. I know everyone on the US roster, but I only respect half of them, and I only like half of those that I do respect. I don't care if Manu gets bronze, I'm still supporting him.

And ducks, you are one dumb . It would only be unpatriotic to go for Cuba, Iraq, and France, so stfu.
