Did you not see what the Refs did to Yao during the second half? They almost got him to foul out in a matter of minutes. (Yao had no first half fouls, he finished the game with 5 fouls.....more than Dwight) Orlando outside of the early fouls on Dwight got every damn call.

We finished the game with 18 FT attempts, but 6 of those were intentional fouls when Orlando was trying to come back......so really it was just 12 FT attempts. Orlando finished the game with 26 FT attempts.....it was the only reason they stayed in the game.
I actually never watched the game so i cant really say. Yao does tend to get shafted now and then, they were probly trying to even it out because Dwight sat out most of the first half, and because hes Chinese.

YAO MING: “It is a good road win. We try and play with much better team discipline and team defense. Dwight Howard is so powerful and everybody tried to give me a hand. That was the key.”

“It (guarding Howard) is getting harder and harder every year to play against him. He is getting stronger and learning new skills. For instance last year he made a couple of left hand shots and I have worked on that for many, many years but not at his age. That has really, really helped him. He has improved his free throw percentage and tonight that really surprised me.”

    D12: 21 ppg, 14 rpg, 4 bpg, 58% FG

NBA players don't get style points. They don't get extra credit for having good post moves. or being able to shoot jumpers better. 2 points is 2 points, whether it's a slam dunk or a hook shot or a midrange fade-away or a long 2-point jumper. Dwight Howard doesn't have the skill Yao has, but his production remains better, he's more durable, and his team wins more. Yao is the more skillful player. Dwight is the better player.

that will change when DW12 face a double team or a team full of athletic bigs who can jump as high as him. yeah 2 points is 2 points, but it would be harder to get the two points if he cant create his own shots because he got little to no post moves to speak of. thats the reason why DW12 can never outshine yao in their head-to-head matchup: he got no outside jumpers to bring yao out of the paint.

Looking at their head to head matchups, Yao has dominated him pretty severely. Yao leads the head to head 5-2 in wins/losses.

    Yao
    24.3 PPG
    9.3 RPG
    2.3 BPG
    55%FG

    Howard
    12 PPG
    9.9 RPG
    1.4 BPG
    44% FG

    Surprising.

    Thats pretty severe

Not too surprising that Yao can be effective against traditional post players.

There just isn't a whole lot of those around anymore, though.

After Yao's rookie season, he started matching Shaq's production and even outplaying him in some games whenever they'd match up head to head.

He's also frequently assigned as Duncan's defender and can give him trouble in the games I've seen so far.

He's also the most easily hampered by other teams playing smallball and is prone to getting run off the floor.

Match him up against other low-post, back to the basket threats, and he's more than capable of holding his own on both ends of the floor.

Force him to defend against face up players, or offenses where his man backs out of the lane and forces him to rotate quickly against dribble penetration, and he can get into trouble.

Oh k yea i missed what you were saying. Your right, especially after what Boozer did to him in the playoffs. I think Houston might get rid of that motion offense completely with the starting unit given the success theyve had already by feeding Yao down low.

Dwight was overrated and at this point in his career still is. He's got alot of talent. But needs alot of work on his game. If he doesnt learn to play smarter, those skinny legs of his that make him jump wont last long. Then whats he gonna do? He sure in the heck isnt no Tim Duncan. Not even close.

Id play in baggy jeans if i was Dwight... his legs do look disproportionally skinny compared to his upper body. Hes like the opposite of Yao.

Yao always gives the other teams traditional big all sorts of trouble. Against Duncan he makes Duncan really work for his shots. Duncan can't just go straight at Yao cause he'll get blocked.

Jamstone great post as usual ...
Shaq was not more graceful than David Robinson but Shaq was the better player ...now Robisnon was a better all-around nd better team player ...but Shaq won more was more dominant ...Yao better all-around rather have Dwight, age potential, physical presence ...will say it's great to see yao dunk more he had some nice ones last week ...

Also Like Jamstone said 2 pts is 2 pts ...and Yao's turnaround shot sure looks prettier BUT ...id rather have someone powering to the hoop than my 7 footer shooting sweet turn around jumpers 15 ft out ...if Dwight improves his FT it wont matter that he is less polished than Yao problem is if he DOESNT improve his fT's then you CAN't Rely on him in the clutch ...Yao can hit his FT's ....needs to back people down more though ...

Dwight Howard and Yao Ming - two wasted #1 draft picks, especially Howard.

You're totally right. I'm sure the rockets wish they would have gone with Jay "Motorcycle" Williams and the Magic with Emeka Okafor.
