Big problem with feral cats in this so-called hill country, is there?
Kendall County and Boerne officials are weighing whether to create a trap-neuter-release program to curb a feral cat problem that City Councilman Rob Ziegler called “out of control,” despite 1,100 stray cats being put to death last year at the municipal pound.

Another 1,400 cats are expected to be exterminated at the pound this year.

The proposal to return trapped cats to their colonies after steps are taken to preclude procreation was pitched by the Hill Country Animal Coalition.

The group initially sought reimbursement of $15 per cat to neuter them, but Boerne Police Chief Gary Miller, who oversees the city pound, said the funding request has been dropped.

The issue was tabled by city council Tuesday for more study. Miller said 70 percent of the cats euthanized were caught outside city limits.
The cats don't really touch a nerve with me since I'm not a cat person. Plus I haven't seen feral cats around my property for a couple of years but I have a pretty big bobcat living nearby, I think he's killing them since I did find a dead cat on my property right around the time he showed up. It's the dogs, puppies, even entire litters being dumped that really pisses me off.

But if people did have unwanted pets, I'd just assume they you over, rather than kill them.
When they dump them in the country they are in fact killing them. It's just gives them an excuse not to take responsibility for it.

Hey man. I don't think it's right and I agree, it's an excuse for irresponsibility. those people. But just for argumentative purposes, I'm sure some cats do alright. With most domestic dogs it's probably a death sentence, but cats are hunters and survivors.

That's ed up. Why people always gotta be killing unwanted cats? Cats go feral; if you don't want or can't afford them, just let em loose, they'll be alright. There's vermin for them to eat everywhere. Why kill them?
I like cats but they are seriously rough on songbirds and our other native birds (too bad they cannot be trained to just grackles). I have to watch our cat, he could feed the family. My wife was freaking on a pile of dove feathers in front of the tv the other day. I hear the pet door swing open there is the cat with another dove in his mouth. It was "Cool it, cat. Disappear!" She was ready to have him drawn and quartered.

Just letting cats go is not the solution. There's needs to be more regulation in regards to breeding and people should be busted for not spaying their pets.

This is straight up bull . It depresses me that people even think that this is an option - it's an epidemic in SA, people pull this all the time, and it's just cruel. I've heard kids in SA talk about dumping their cats just because they "don't like them anymore". It teaches irresponsibility and an overall disrespect for life in general.

My cat was most likely one that someone at my apartment complex didn't feel like taking with them when they left - she loves human attention and affection, so I know she wasn't feral, but she showed up on my porch with four kittens and I found a way to take care of things, because otherwise that's five "feral" cats for the one that someone originally dumped.

Also, when you throw out a housecat, they are NOT feral. They may have hunting instincts, and they might be able to feed themselves, but they are not feral. There is a difference.

Settle down PETA. First, if it depresses you that I would think that's an option, you should be elated by the fact that I'm not the type of person, who in a million years, would ever, ever own a pet that I didn't want or wasn't equipped for.

Secondly, I had no idea this is an epidemic in SA, but whether it is or not, I'm not advocating that people go out and dump their pets. All things being equal I'd love to see laws that enforced spaying/neutering. I'd love to see people act responsible. And if they can't do that, I'd love to see people properly euthanize pets they can't take care of.

But if the proposition becomes, "Oh, I've got these seventy cats. And I don't want them. And I'm going to butcher them in an open field." Yeah, I'd just assume that not happen- even if that means letting them go. If it's a choice between chucking a bag of kittens into a river and just leaving them on the side of the road somewhere, sorry, I'm letting them live. And if you think that's disgustingly naive or cruel or depressing or unethical... tough .

That lady was very strict on who could visit her, you had to have a cat scan first.
