We'll get Ace Ventura on it right away.

Seriously though, here are my best guesses:

The article said that all of the cats were all adults and of the same breed, i.e. Siamese.

This would suggest some kind of breeding operation for a specific breed of cat. With the ecoonomy in the tank, orders for the kittens might have dropped off and it might not have been feasible to keep feeding all of the animals. That there were no juveniles or kittens would indicate this.

    Other possibilities:
Crazy person who has too many cats and dies, leaving relatives to clean up.
Medical experiments of some sort that lost funding.

Since neither of the above possibilities would really explain why only adult Siamese cats were found, other than a particular sort of crazy person who only liked Siamese cats, I think the first scenario is more likely.

Given that, it is very possible to actually track down the culprit.

One simply has to start with a google search "siamese cats for sale"

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...le&btnG=Search

and troll around for any operation in the north SA vacinity that is found. I doubt the person(s) responsible drove very far to get rid of the cats.

Since there were no kittens, one might assume that the kitten stock was probably retained for a "close out" sale. I shudder to think what might happen to those that don't get sold.

    Regards,
    RG

I would guess that vets would probably have a better way to dispose of the cats. Further, vets tend to be a bit more ethical when it comes to the treatment of animals. and would be unlikely to be so unethical as to dump them in the manner described in the article.

This would also not explain why only one breed was found.

The rather callous way the animals were disposed of, suggests to me that whoever did it really saw them as something akin to chattel as opposed to living creatures.

This is just my analsysis though. I have little to base this on factually, and wouldn't say that my analysis is ironclad probability. I think it is more likely than any other explanation, though.

That's ed up. Why people always gotta be killing unwanted cats? Cats go feral; if you don't want or can't afford them, just let em loose, they'll be alright. There's vermin for them to eat everywhere. Why kill them?

that. I didn't move to the hill country just to have a load of feral cats & dogs killing off the native wildlife and my livestock. Feral cat on my land gets a bullet. Feral dogs go to the shelter if they'll come to me otherwise they get a bullet too. I can't stand morons like you who think it's ok to just drive out to the country and dump your unwanted pets.

    I love the Hill Country.

If I were a Spur I'd live up there rather than that weak ass dominion.

Cats would simply be eating small insects and mice up to the limit of the ability of the land to support them.

Dogs on the other hand, are pack animals and capable of bringing down larger prey, like say a small human child, or if in enough numbers, a juvenile cow.

I would take the dogs a bit more seriously than the cats, if I lived in the country.

And thereby removing the food source for owls, foxes, ringtail cats etc.

Cats will go after chickens, ducks, and other fowl that alot of people keep. I keep some chickens because they are really good at finding/eating scorpions. One of my first lessons when I moved out was being woken up in the middle of the night by a scorpion stinging the out of you really sucks.

Well. I don't have livestock, but I would never shoot a dog or cat. And apparently, I've touched a nerve? Big problem with feral cats in this so-called hill country, is there?

I can't stand morons like you who think it's ok to just drive out to the country and dump your unwanted pets.
I didn't say I thought it was okay. I don't think it's okay to have unwanted pets in the first place. But if people did have unwanted pets, I'd just assume they you over, rather than kill them.
