If he played for a Memphis, he would be an all star as well. In my opinion.
I think he's a confidence guy.
If he feels he is important to the offense and his contribution is needed and wanted, he'll play his heart out. Even then though, he's not a great defender. Just a good scorer and rebounder, with blocks occasionally.

gasol >>>>>>>>>>>> Gooden
bad comparison
This is true.
Gooden doesn't look too bright. But I think looks are deceiving. From his interviews he seems like a reasonably intelligient guy. He must be if he picked up Pops system and Pop trusts him enough to play him in crucial situations.
I don't think Gasol is that great.
He has a nice post game, and is a average defender. He just looks really good in that system with Kobe.
Similar games.
Gooden is not as good, but the gap is no grand canyon. Why do you feel Gasol is head and shoulders better?
I don't know if Gooden will ever be on Gasol's level stats wise, as long as Timmy is here.
But he could def bring the same level of game to the Spurs, not quite the same stats though. Timmy is the man.
I could pobably summarize here: ___
Above average talent on a ty team is a system in itself.
Name 30 PF's better than Gooden.
I am starting to see signs of defense from Gooden. He is not as good as Gasol, but he does have a good array of offensive skills. If he stays with the Spurs and learns the system I am sure he will be rated higher next year. I don't think he will be as good as Gasol, but he definitely fills a huge void for the Spurs on the offensive front line.
No doubt, Gasol is better.
But my point is they are similar. Gasol is not THAT much better.
He has definately surprised me on defense. He was giving Bass a tough time down low.
I expected scoring and rebounds out of him, but he's giving us some D too.
intelligence wise, Gasol is probably top 5 in the league
when the dude talks you can tell he is a truly smart mofo. he will either be a successful coach or broadcaster in his future
To be honest, I've never really heard him discuss x's and o's.
But from his game you can tell he has a high Basketball IQ.
