Let's see... 3 out of 10 teams who beat the Spurs in this span went on to win the NBA le. 30%. Seeing how difficult it is to win the NBA le and since only one team can win it the overwhelming statistical probability is extremely low... I'd say 30% is actually a high percentage.

actually, the Spurs won the le in '06, it was the 2nd of our 3-peat. after we beat Dallas we easily beat Phoenix(as usual) in the western finals and then swept the miami heat in the Finals.

name the last team to sweep two straight Finals?

Mavs fans clinging to the false notion of being 2006 NBA Champs is so, so, so very extremely most certainly beyond PATHETIC! The only banner you have to hang from the rafters is your Western Conference Champions banner. Be proud! It's the only banner you will be hanging up for a long, long time.

2000-2002 3 peat was David Stern's homemade porn to bring back the audience after MJ.

I think Sacramento shares one of those 3 Lakers trophies for that bull Game 6, when the NBA was into fixing games via the refs.
Agreed stern changed the game so fat ass shaq could get away with murder, cause stupid little kids loved him. And I think portland should get a piece of the 2000 championship I mean noway they blow that lead without something fishy. I think they paid off sheed.

The "lose in next round curse" is only 1 season old (2008). Hardly a curse...

In '06 Dallas beat SA in the 2nd round, then beat the Amare-less Suns in the WCF before choking away the Finals to the Heat.

Even in '04, the Lakers beat us in the 2nd round, then beat Minnesota in the WCF, before falling to Detroit in the Finals.

So in the past 5 years, the only team this curse applies to is the Lakers ONCE... and they didn't beat us this year.

To say the team that beat the Spurs eventually loses is irrelevant; lots of teams can say that.

What continues? Your stupidity? The 2004 Lakers did NOT lose in the next round. They beat us in the WCSFs, advanced through the WCFs, and then lost in the Finals. Same with the 2006 Mavs.

    What continues? Your stupidity?

    lol, the anger.

oh yea, you are correct, next round, next rounds, does it ing matter?

point is, they didnt win jack after beating the spurs

same for mavs. they lost .

No one has won a championship that beat the spurs in the playoffs except the Lakers in 2002.

I think its going to be a long time before someone beats the spurs and wins the championship again.

Was having a conversation with a friend (a Laker fan, ugh) about how when the Spurs lose to a team in the playoffs, the team that beats them ends up losing in the next round and of course, almost never wins it all.

Call it: The Curse of beating the Spurs in the playoffs. ? !

Considering the Spurs are the LAST NBA champions from the Western Conference, and now Dallas is 0-2 and on it's way out --- is the curse real ? ? ? !

    SPURS CURSES ? ? ?

1994–95 Lost to Rockets who became NBA Champions

1999–2000 Lost to Phoenix (Phoenix loses next round)

2000-2001 Lost to NBA Champions Lakers
2001–2002 Lost to NBA Champions Lakers

    2002–2003 Spurs NBA Champions

2003-2004 Lost to Lakers (Lakers lose next round)

    2004–05 Spurs NBA Champions
2005–06 Lost to Dallas (Dallas loses next round)
    2006–07 Spurs NBA Champions

2007–08 Lost to Lakers (Lakers lose next round)
2008-09 Lost to Dallas (Dallas lose next round)

What a poor, poor example of a supposed curse.

    1) You could probably go through a lot of teams and find a similar trend that the team who beat them lost in the next round. This is because there are a lot of rounds in the NBA playoffs.

    2) This "curse" only goes back to 2002 when the Lakers defeated the Spurs in the second round and went on to win the championship.

    3) The sample size is small for the last ten years because the Spurs have won 4 championships during that time. If they Spurs hadnt won any championships in ten years and the team who beat them always lost in the next round, then you might start to notice an odd pattern.

Theres no pattern here. Just a weak attempt to find one.

CORRECTION!! The Spurs lost to Mavs in 06 who then beat the Suns in the next round.

So this supposed curse only goes back to.........last year and this year (Lakers).
