Seems to me the Spurs want to focus on speed with all of the guards. I do not think that it has anything to do whatsoever with Parker, Hill, Mason, Ginobili. They might be trying to find a slasher that can possibly play some SF.

Maybe it's a sign of the Spurs gradually getting smaller and smaller... I mean, Bonner started 67 games at center last season, a guy who is an oversized, three-point shooting, small forward. his effort and hustle doesn't go unappreciated, but he's not a bruiser or shot blocker... We drafted a short 2-guard in george hill, who never played the point in college, and as long as Parker is around, will likely play more of the 2-guard in the NBA... we drafted Gist, who is sort of the long 3 we need, but not exactly a power forward from what I understand. admittedly i haven't seen him play much. But it seems like he can play the 4 in a small ball lineup.

I'm tired of seeing the Spurs go small, and get outrebounded or outmuscled, that's for sure. If we draft yet another point guard, it better damn well be worth it.

Hopefully us working out a lot of guards isn't indicative of anything at all. We DID reportedly try for Marcus Camby last season, which leads me to think Pop hasn't completely abandonded traditional big men... but just prefers old, beat up ones (*cough* Kurt Thomas *cough*).

I know its hard to acccept the idea of trading Parker and to a certain extent Manu but I'm pretty sure the FO and Pop are least open to the idea. They wouldn't be doing their jobs if they weren't. Bottom line is they'll do a deal if it makes the Spurs a better team. Only Timmy IMO is untouchable.

According to the Spurs workout schedule, they are working out with alot of guards. Makes me think Pop maybe is actually looking to trade away Parker/Manu...or Hill/Mason.

There are 0 workouts for the C posistion.

    hmm.

You can rest assured that Pop has no intention of trading away Tony or Manu unless LA wants to trade Kobe, Cleveland wants to trade Lebron and/or Orlando wants to trade Superman.

Workouts are carried on all the time during the off season. As for Hill and Mason I'd say it has more to do with getting both more familiar with the Spurs system.

don't get me wrong, I love parker.
But when your PG has the most PPG, something is wrong.
Both TD and Parker had low assists but high points in Dallas series because other could not score. So yes, something is very wrong! Nobody else can score other than Parker and TD.

no! There are two players in the league that I would consider for Parker... CP3 (straight trade) or Deron Williams (and the Jazz would have to + Boozer or Mehmet). Nobody else in the league is matching his talent at this point. Let's face it Manu, Tony and Tim aren't going anywhere. Get over it already.

Don't overthink the workout schedule. The Spurs interviewed multiple positions at the Combine. And a few of their workouts were grouped by position, 4 at a time. Don't read anything into the current list.

I thought they already look for a successor for Mason, considering quite a few of the invited players are combo guards with shooter abilities. (well Mason isn't a combo and can't play the point, what might have been a hit for his future with the Spurs when Pop found out)
but JV is gone for sure. anything else would be mind boggling.

First, the workout list is far from being exhaustive. Spurs have worked out players that aren't in that list.

Second, whoever Spurs will draft at #37, this player will likely spend his rookie year overseas or in Austin. The drafted player will have no influence on Spurs future rotation.

Bruno - there are some guys in the draft that look like they might have the potential to be good perimeter defenders at the NBA level (you never know till they get there), and who could possibly go as low as 37 (you never know till draft day). You don't think there is any possibility of a young defensive specialist cracking the rotation, at least for 10-15 minutes per game?

You know I am freakin tired of hearing this word "Specialist" why can't you just get guys who can play basketball both offense and defense. We got to many damn specialist who suck we need some damn ballers.

You can't live in the past we are never going to find a David Robinson to play center for us. We are never going to have big shot Bob..."Well we tried with Bonner ..nuff said" and we are never going to have a guy who can play defense like Bruce.....

So stop reaching for freakin specialist and get guys who can just play. And for the love of God stop getting undersized players!!!

I don't think it is easy to find a player with good size, who can play offense and defense with the pick #37... Even Griffin is undersized.

And if you find one, he is probably as athletic as a dead horse.

It's sure that you never know but you had too look at the most realistic case. I don't think Spurs will be able to get someone who will help them as soon as nest year at #37.

Danny Green seems to be the player with the biggest chance to help Spurs next year. However, is he a that interesting prospect ? Spurs have worked with Hairston for one year, is Green more interesting than him ?

To me, the answer won't come from the draft. If Spurs want to have a good team next year, it will be via trade and FA. I won't be upset if Spurs trade their #37 pick or draft and stash an international player.

Green was one of the players that looked like might still be around at #37. The other two were Sam Young and Terrence Williams, but both of them seem to be moving up on the wanted list. The Spurs would probably have to move up to get either one of them.

I had really hoped that Williams would sort of stay under the radar, because he's just a damned good defensive player. But I guess that was just wishful thinking on my part. He is really the one I was thinking might be able to crack the rotation as a rookie, on his defense alone.

Derrick Brown is another player that might get rotation minutes for his defense. He is a decent shooter too. There is a pretty good chance he will still be there at 37.

no...Rose is umproven..yeah he played well against a depleated Celtics team, but I'd go with Parker over him b/c he has proved he can play when it counts and yes has a finals MVP and 3 rings along with 2 all star game appearences.
the derrick rose v. rajon rondo game where they each had like 35 points was the worst defense i'd ever seen anyone play ever. derrick rose didnt even pretend to play d in that series and rondo got into a stance, got beat and didnt try to recover. tony parkers d is bad yes, but thats because he's incapable of playing bigger players and he's not very long. and tony parker, if he TRIED, could not be as bad a defender as derrick rose.

Obviously it's not Parker..........you admitted as much when you acknowledged that he our leading scorer.
