Reposted without permission, from personal correspondence. By a friend:

$750B/15M = $50,000 That's 15 million people getting $50,000 for year, not including the state benefits.

Like I mentioned several times before, I would have channeled most of it into unemployment compensation. (And I would have sent it to the States no strings attached, even though I would like to see unemployment benefits inflation indexed.) My way, the stimulus would be implemented almost immediately. Additionally, most of the usual graft, political pork, and just plain waste is avoided. The stimulus would tend to help those who were, for the most part, responsible but found themselves in a pinch because of the debacle caused by our Gov't officials and immoral and/or corrupt Corporate leaders. The majority of the stimulus now goes to companies and/or individuals trying preserve or increase their fortunes and worse it takes much too long to filter back through the economy to have any effect when it most needed, not later when we'll have inflationary pressures..

With the majority of responsible people not highly concerned about loss of most of their income through potential job loss, many would not have pull back on their spending the past 9 months that deepened the economic recession. You also have a better multiplier effect if you're a devout Keynesian.

You could also temporarily modify COBRA Health Insurance so it wasn't such a joke, even if it was only a 1 year deal.
Also adding beefing up food stamps and other social services a substantial amount.

If you over bought when buying your house and used an exotic mortgage to do so...well sorry..get on the soup line with the rest of us. :-)

Of course, I'd rather not have the Gov't borrow all the money for this, but if they're going to borrow Trillions, at least try to prevent the little guy from being wiped out instead of rewarding those for bad behavior...

I told my friend he should found a PAC based on this idea immediately, so it can maybe be in the conversation for stimulus 2.0, whenever it comes.

So let me get this straight...

The first stimulus so far has not stimulated the economy. However, this isnot because Obama was wrong, rather it's because it just hasn't had enough time to work yet, because you don't see the effects of the stimulus for many months.

Therefore, in order to stimulate the economy now, we need another stimulus like the first one.

So, the plan is, in order to stimulate the economy now, to do something that by our own admission won't have any effect for many months.

Screw it. I quit. I'm done. Let the God damn country burn. No more political discussions. It's pointless.
You do not have faith in our federal government?

And it is good for us to turn over more and more parts of our lives to the Democratic-Republican Party (note: I am not referring to your ability to obtain an abortion, marry your special friend of the same sex, attend church, or buy a firearm)? It's always been an illusion that the state can manage things better than a free people. Look at how it manages its own affairs. Of course, the people are now perfectly conditioned to accept this, and will continue to think elections really matter.

We assume that as the second hand moves forward, progress is made. History is replete with examples of this not being the case. We will have to make more mistakes before learning the same lesson as generations which came before.

There is, only in the wrong direction sometimes.

Heading down a road, a one-way street, there's no turning back until it's too late. Maybe then people can rise and get their power back.

Why not? I'm too lazy to work, so I rather live off welfare. Add up the stimulus check from my taxes and the unemployment handout and you can make ends meet fairly well. Then if I get sick, there's always Medicare.

It's the American Dream(tm). What's not to like?

I don't mind the concept of economic stimulus -- just not the way they're doing it. Can we actually pump some money, NOW, into the private sector, instead of growing the govt?

I never understood why some of the stimulus won't be destributed for a few years. How in the is that going to help the economy NOW?

When a private company needs some emergency cash and goes to a VC, they don't need money 2-3 years in the future, they need it ASAP.
Come on, you know the answer to this...

Most of the stimulus money is timed to hit as we roll into the 2010 election cycle. So right when all the dumb soundbite masses are getting ready to vote, they're going to be seeing stimulus dollars everywhere around them.

The Dems and their media cheerleaders will point to it all, say it's working, and sucker the idiots with the ten second attention spans that bought into the Messiah hype last fall.
