Here's my list of potentially devastating on court combos for the 2009-2010 Spurs.

    (4) George Hill, Manu, RJ (Haislip ?), Duncan and Ratliff on a must stop defensive end game situation. Manu guarding the go-to player in isolation.
Since when was Manu a 1 on 1 defensive stopper?

He is one of our best outside defenders. I might say Hill is better. The jury is out on RJ.
He's never really been a great 1 on 1 defender though. He's scrappy and he can get his hands in passing lanes and get under opposing player's skin...But there are going to be players he just cant match up with. I really hope RJ can contest shots from the likes of Carmelo, Lebron, and Kobe, cause i know Manu is not going to be that guy.

ginobili is actually the spurs' best perimeter defender now that bowen is too old/gone. spurs obviously don't want to put him on the opposing team's best perimeter player because that would just add more physical stress to him. he obviously shouldn't be guarding strong small forwards but i think he can guard kobe fine if really needed.

I think that Manu is above average when it comes to 1v1 defensive. By that I mean that he will do a good job on more than half the wing players in the league. He definitely struggles with top tier offensive wing players though.

Haislip is a shooting PF. Think Bonner with more hops and finishing ability.
that's one reason why i don't think Haislip will really help us (the main reason being simply the lack of talent). if he's brought to be a shooting 3' Big, then i see bonner as much better than him in this role.

Hope Haislip will surprise us though.

as much as i appreciate Manu as a player and as versatile as he is, i think we have a problem if Manu is our 1 on 1 perimeter defensive specialist.

i rather think Pop would like to call RJ number when a crucial stop will be needed against the perimeter star of the other team (unless he's a PG or a small SG, then G Hill could be the man).

that's why i would like Bruce back.

I hope so, I never saw him play yet so I won't get too excited over an unproven guy who could not stick in the league yet (reasons why probably). Will he fit here? He could.
The knock on Haslip is his defensive skill/determination. If buys in defensively, and can pickup the system, I think he'll stick. If not, he'll be gone soon enough. Offensively I think he'll be alright.

Matt Bonner is a top 10 shooter in the NBA. Out of 100 three pointers he can make about 90. Brent Barry, Roger Mason and Ray Allen are better off the top of my head, but Matt Bonner is probably the best shooter over 6'8" in the NBA.
huh, ever heard the name Nowitzki?

In that video, if you watch, Blair is at the top of the key (offense) when that guy starts to drive. Literally as soon as he heads toward the hoop, Blair starts sprinting behind. It's like is was going up either way, no matter if it was to get a rebound, to slam the put-back, or to just watch the shot go in from eye level.

Dude really wants it. That's a good thing to see.

Parker can't guard anyone. McDyess is going to have problems against either Gasol or Bynum. RJ has a 3" disadvantage against Odom.
Um, no. Parker can be an excellent defender - with him it's all about at ude, and he usually turns up the D when it matters.

Dice is 6'9"3/4 and his fundamental smarts give him more of a hope against either Gasol or Bynum than most 7" athletes in this league have. He'll use position and succeed where others will fail with an extra 2".

RJ's 3"s don't matter much because he's quick enough to stay in front of Odom. Odom might post him up, but then help is close at hand.

Height does NOT the balla make - I'd say it's rarely the deciding factor in a matchup.
