The Notre Dame boards are going crazy with the thought of Stoops coming to South Bend. According to students and players, it's all but done.

    http://www.irishenvy.com/forums/notr...ops-smoke.html

Weird side note...Stoops is in Youngstown, Ohio this week for his grandmother's funeral. She apparently was born in Ireland and that whole side of the family are strong Catholics and love Notre Dame. Food for thought...

Because he's going to OU when Notre Dame signs Stoops.

Going outside comfort zone here, but credible people saying today they believe Bob Stoops will wind up coaching at Notre Dame next season.
    - Adam Schefter

I know he's an NFL guy, so take it FWIW.

How credible is Schef when it's outside the NFL? HE's the best in the business when it's the NFL, though.

IMO he's credible enough where I don't think he would take a chance on something like that unless he had some true, legit sources.

Still means almost nothing at this point....who knows what will happen. I dont buy that Stoops isn't interested tho, like he has tried to imply.

Firing him with 5 or 6 years left on the contract was stupid. They obviously caved to the irate alumni base.

I certainly hope Stoops doesn't go to Notre Dame. He's got a great thing going at OU even though they did have a down year. The fact is..he'll have alot of down years at Notre Dame.

The problem with Notre Dame is their alumni and boosters need to have realistic goals for that program. They have high academic standards, a cold enviornment, and they are Catholic...not every athlete wants to go to Notre Dame. That's why their teams stink so much...they can't recruit anybody when the power house programs like USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, Alabama etc..have warmer climates..not so tough academic standards and the likes.

Realistically, it will be hard pressed for anyone now to get a national championship contender year in and year out in South Bend.

You should have seen darth visor's presser. Very entertaining. He went thru great lengths to say he would be "in Oklahoma." He never said he would not leave to go to ND or take the job or talk to someone about it. In fact, one reporter asked him to simply say he wouldn't go or to say no; darth basically said, I don't like you way you said that and never answered him.

Zero way darth makes a lateral, perhaps backwards move to start over. Same for Meyer. Kelly is peeing his pants waiting for Meyer and darth to say no, and will be infinitessimally cheaper than either of those guys.

Stoops would be re ed to leave OU for ND. The Domers need a defensive minded coach, whatever person that may be, IMO

I believe a lot of people look at teams that are doing well as of late.......USC, OU, Texas, LSU as the U's to coach at..............but ND is like the Yankees/Red Sox, Green Bay Packers and UK (college basketball)........the tradition, the holy grail of championship teams. Many still believe ND to be the end all place to coach, because that U and its alumni demand the most. At least IMHO....that is what makes that coaching job sexy. Even though ND is tough academically, a catholic school, and its cold as up there.

i actually think stoops is overrated. ever since he lost a lot of his assistants he started losing big games on a regular basis. the one thing stoops does have is a lot of contacts to texas high schools. but how many of his players would be interested in notre dame or would get in is a whole different matter.

Meyer isn't going to ND. He was offered that job once already when he was at Utah in 2005 (after their first 12-0 season). You would have thought they sent the Pope himself to Utah to get Meyer, and the folks at ND were very (over) confident they would get him. To everyone's surprise, Meyer chose Florida. No sense for Meyer to leave UF now to go there.

The funny thing is, only his 2000ish (BCS win) assistants have done anything as coaches. Since he lost them, none of his assistants have panned out as HCs and he can't win a BCS game.

I think he just signed an extention, not that means too much but its probably a good indicator he'll stay.
