In what other sport do you know the refs names...oh .
I hope the other crawford doesn't ref the game on Sunday, cause I'm going to that one. I'm hoping for a sweep at home and to take the 3-1 series lead!
In what other sport do you know the refs names...oh .
it would be ed up if Stern puts Joey Crawford for game 6 or 7
not good! Bavetta is Nowitzki boyfriend, he always in favor of Dirk.
Lets hope we win it in five.
Congratulations on the win tonight Spurs fans.
Exactly. You don't see people checking out ref/umpire assignments for baseball or football...that's pretty sad.
The only NFL ref I can name is Ed Hochuli. Not only can fans name a lot of the NBA refs, but you know exactly what kind of game you're getting when a certain ref shows up.
Steve Javie gives road teams a good whistle and gets a boner out of riling up the home crowd. Bavetta doesn't like blowouts and will help the losing team out with a few calls to keep a game from getting out of hand. Bennett Salvatore's crews calls 800 fouls and turn the game into a 4-hour free throw shooting contest. Joey Crawford turns himself into the star attraction.
Javie was actually extremely home-biased this season in the limited games he officiated..he called 54.7% of the calls against the road teams and the home team won in 65% of the games he officiated..I know what you mean though, he's usually good to road teams..
As for tonight's refs..
Danny Crawford is statistically one of the more fair refs..he called 50.8% against the road team and 49.2% against the home team this season..nothing crazy, but he was more fair than most refs this season..
The home team won in 63% of the games where Mott officiated, but he was very close to 50-50 in his calls..
Bavetta was arguably the most fair ref this season..the home team won 53% of the games he officiated and the calls were literally 50-50 for each side..
This crew was a lot better than the first 2 in this series, especially statistically..obviously the playoffs are a different animal though..
I don't know but he definately goes with the flow of the game to make it as close as it could be on the scores.
He will be the leading ref as I assume, but damn we have great refs for tonight
Dan Crawford and y B called games tend to favor the home team, but they also become free throw contests at times which would favor the mavs. y also has the rep as the company man who uses his whistle to keep games close, so I'd expect a close one.
The last Spurs game that Bavetta reffed was the one where Sean made the comment about him needing to swallow his whistle and asked "isn't it past 's bedtime?" Sean and Bill said the game was never going to end. I don't remember who the Spurs were playing, but I'm pretty sure they won.
I remember that Game 1 in Denver. The Nuggets outplayed the Mavs, but the ridiculous calls they got sure helped them too.
Mavs are 1 & 15 in playoff games where Danny Crawford Refs. That is 6%
In all other playoff games the Mavs are 60%
6% vs. 60%!
So there is a 94% chance the Spurs win tonight!
and you thought Joey Crawford was bad for the Spurs!
Bavetta is prone to prolonging the game with constant whistles and trying to keep the score close. OTOH, Dan Crawford allows more physical play. Who will prevail?
so why don't you guys forfeit then. Rest your players for game 4![]()
I can't stand Bavetta, Dan is alright though.
The question is - are the Mavs players as aware of this stat as the fans? And if so, will it affect their play, like Joey Crawford did to Timmy and the Spurs for awhile?
If by ed up you mean only fair. If Mavs are going to get a ref they have a well do ented history with, we damn well better see Joey Crawford at some point.
He maybe awful, but we can't fault him for not being animated, even at 443 years old.![]()
Now this is a guy who has been paying attention to basketball games!
You are ever so right! Bavetta 'manages' the games so that the tv audience can stay interested if it looks like it is gonna be a blowout by either side. I've seen him do it over and over again.
Mavs fans, though...you didn't want Bennett Salvatore because you thought he would be bad for you...now you are all saying that Dan Crawford is the worst for you....Since Salvatore sent Nowitzki to line about 50 times in that fiorst game I assume that you all are planning on having the same impact on Crawford tonight. ... Which means you all should win big as a function of lots of fouls being called on the spurs.
The one I do not want to see ref a game between Mavs and Spurs is Javie...because that man is in love with Dallas WHENEVER they play the spurs.
He keeps games close and then in the final moments calls the fouls against the spurs....every time. I honestly think he is on the take.
In the first round of the playoffs, there are 8 crew chiefs. In the last few years, I can only find one instance (BOS/CHI in 09) where a chief worked more than 1 game in a series (Javie was the chief of 2 games in that series). Usually, if a series goes 7 games, it means that the teams will see all but 1 of the crew chiefs.
This year, the 8 crew chiefs are:
Dan Crawford
Joe Crawford
Joe Derosa
Scott Foster
Ken Mauer
Monty McCutchen
Ed Rush
Bennett Salvatore
DAL/SA have seen 3 of those -- Salvatore, Mauer, and D. Crawford. Since we know we're going at least 5, we know that we'll see at least 2 more of them; we'll know better tomorrow who those might be. I'd suspect, though, that we'll definitely see Joe Crawford at some point in this series. In fact, I think it's at least reasonably probable that he'll call Game 4.
But if I was a Mavs fan, the guy I'd be rooting to have show up for a playoff game against the Spurs is Ed Rush. Since 2001, the Spurs are 8-14 (.364) with Rush on the floor; they're 74-38 in other playoff games (.661). They're also 0-3 against the Mavs when Rush officiates and 13-9 otherwise against the Mavs.
