They ought to fine a % of his salery. Fine him 10%. That would get players and coaches to shut up.

If you are going to complain, do it during the game, that is when it matters.
%1 is even too much for Dampier, 100K

Well he also challenged his teammates to "attack the rim" more.
    Like he's ever done that.
Dumpier is Zero for 7 in the series.
The starting center for the Mavs has not made one FG so far. 0% Ha.
Worst starting center of any playoff team
true. The only good things he brings to this serie are a physicality against Duncan (even if not always successful) and some offensive rebounding.

If the mavs had an offensive post player threat, they would be scary.

Even though it's fun ridiculing the Mavs the refs often do suck. I don't think stern or the refs should be above criticism. Trusting Stern to take care of everything gave us the Donaghy scandal.

Dampier was stupid for saying that after Stern's warning. But he paid the price for a warning meant for Phil Jackson. Too little warning for a player, too many warnings for Jackson.

If you haven't followed it, this was from an article about Stern's warning:
"Stern singled out Jackson and Miami Heat president Pat Riley as two coaches he would serve with harsher penalties than fines if he had the chance to go back 20 years and respond to their criticism of the referees again." Stern announced that he would start handing out suspensions, in addition to fines.

So even after Stern's warning, Jackson had to keep his mouth running:
But Jackson couldn't stop himself from getting at least one jab in at the officials, even though he admitted that he doesn't think any of his comments made over the years gained him any favorable edge when it came to how referees called his games.

"You know, I know that the referees take an eye test, I don't know if they take a reading test," Jackson said.

Stern gave Jackson a warning, and Jackson basically flipped him off. Dampier would have gotten the message from a $5-10K fine and a phone call. It's upside down.

Mavs C Dampier fined $35,000 for criticizing refs

Mavericks center Erick Dampier has been fined $35,000 for publicly criticizing game officials.

Dampier’s punishment, announced Monday, was for comments he made following a 94-90 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night.

NBA commissioner David Stern said last week the league will consider suspending players from playoff games for griping about the officials. Dampier is the first player punished since then, receiving the same $35,000 levied against others.
so you can get fined and/or suspended for talking about the job refs do, but if you go throw down a guy with a broken nose, it's ok.
