Nah, Amare has been better than Wade. I'll take Amare's dominance against Dallas over Wade's one win without Shaq against a subpar Wizards team.

timvp is right. Amare is playing at very high level. He is even playing some relatively good D. So far in the playoffs, Amare has been the best big man hands down. I don't think anyone could argue with this.
The only thing I would like to see, if the Suns and the Spurs meet in the WCF, is what would happen with Amare's performance when the Spurs defense colapses on him negating pick&roll opportunities with Nash. Most of Amare's points come from pick&roll chances created by Nash's excellent passing ability, opening the avenue for easy dunks (easy for Amare's athletic ability).
The Achilles heel in Amare's game is still the 8-17ft range when the paint is negated by the other team. He tends to take either a jumper (he has improved his jumper dramatically, but it is still not his main weapon), or lower his shoulder and bull his way into the paint. The latter option would open opportunities for the Spurs' bigs to take charges. The Spurs should take advantage of that in an hypothetical matchup, because in a couple of years, with enough training, he will learn to avoid that mistake.

It's funny how Spurs fans, including myself, are so pissed at watching thugs like Carmelo and Fortson make such blatant fouls on our guards, yet Pop goes to the Media and says:
“Both teams are in the playoffs. It’s a contact sport and both the teams are going to be aggressive and physical. That’s just what’s expected. I thought the game was great both ways.”
There's a difference between being agressive and physical and committing flagrant fouls. Just ask Joe Johnson of the Pheonix Suns.

Joe Johnson caused his own injury by hip-hop hanging on the rim, helps with his street cred in his demographic, but it hurt his team and caused tons of headaches. There was no FF.
Since the start of the thread was Wacko Walton saying that Amare was the best big man, with no qualifications, I'll wade in at that point. No ing way can you be the best big man in the game, play heavy minutes, and average under 9 rebounds over three seasons. He's the best athlete at his position, but he's got a long way to go for best player at his position. I think he's the third best PF, behind Timmy and KG, andn I don't even like KG, but at least his ass plays some defense, and hits the boards.
As for the playoffs, his scoring is a function of the go go offense, and his rebounding has been padded by playing a weak Dallas front line. His first round averages were 23/9. His averages against Dallas have been 35.7/15.3.
They were also talking about the Heat fans and how they're gonna finally get a taste of the playoffs past the first round after years of early exits, and someone said "Laker and Spurs fans are the only ones who have been used to still attending games in late May."

Amare may appear to be the best right now, but hopefully Tim Duncan will get a chance soon enough to prove the Waltons in this world wrong. Phoenix-San Antonio should be a fun matchup, should it materialize. And Tim's ankle should be juuuuust fine!

Also Amare had 5 blocks on Friday and is averaging 15 rebs against the Mavs.
TD is a better player than Amare right now, as in a complete player. Amare has been much more explosive and scored a high percentage of his teams points but he is still learning. Not to mention the relative heath of the two players.
Pop is too politically correct, he needs to back up his players. He needs to tell the media and the NBA offices that he will not tolerate these tactics against his players. There is a huge difference betw hard fouls and fouls that intend to mame and flagrant fouls. What if TP or Manu are lost for the season??? Does he not remember DA's loss when Howard ended his season in 01?
Pop should say that if these tactics continue, he is going to send his thugs after Ray Allen and knock him out of the game.
