And that 1 trick is the reason he is on the team.
This team can't win without an active Matt Bonner. Period. He is the key to our success.
And that 1 trick is the reason he is on the team.
Bullcrap. When Bonner was out the spurs were 7-1. Bonner is a luxury, not a necessity. When he's red-hot like he was tonight he can make winning games alot easier, but I wouldn't say he's necessary, the spurs still have the personnel to win games obviously.
Nice game by Bonner, but he had to start hitting shots at some point. Too bad he can't do it in the playoffs when it matters.
IMO the issue some Spurs fans(not me) with Bonner is they want him to be a complete player and hate on him because hes not. And until this year Bonner was used way too much in seasons past, partially due to the overall lack of depth the Spurs have at the 3, and 4 spots. Playing Bonner too many minutes exposes his less than impressive rebounding and defensive skills. Now with the addition of Splitter, along with Dyess, and Blair, Bonner will hopefully have similar nights and be a 4 that comes off the bench and provide a offensive spark. Playing Bonner spot minutes, provided hes hitting his 3's is an asset to the Spurs. With the Spurs solid depth at the 3 and 4 spots this year, Bonner won't be overextended and instead be a scoring spark off the bench.
Matt Bonner has shot 40% for us from 3 for the past two years. Matt Bonner is shooting 80% this year. I think he can keep up that pace and win the Spurs their 5th by continuing to shoot 80% from 3. This is Matt Bonner's team.
Uh.... ahh... ya.., YAH. I get you now. :![]()
Never have I been more convinced that youre fully re ed.
Props to Bonner! 7/7 is just amazing. I guess it doesnt matter if he hits 100% of his shots though, because he still has red hair.
Who are you talking about?
Moreover, if Bonner can increase his minutes to 48 and his 3PT percentage to 90, then we might go 81-1 this season. BENCH Splitter.
Oh now your just overdoing it. 85% tops. Re .
You know, I think you just might be on to something. We need to get you a direct line to Pop. Shape up this team please sir.
i saw the game from about the 8 minute mark in the 2nd quarter...
Bonner obviously shot well and didnt hesitate, and even had several quality defensive plays.
BUT, in the second quarter when playing with blair, the lack of rebounding and inside presence was allowing OKC to slaughter us. In the gamethread i commented on it, but the dig wasnt on bonner / blair, it was on pop for pairing them.
Over the years now it seems most reasonable people's criticism of bonner has more to do with how pop uses him (that, and the choking). the fact will always remain, that bonner is a role playing big man lacking in rebounding/length/athleticism/toughness, playing on a team (that has been?) lacking in rebounding/length/athleticism/toughness from its role player big men. So long as pop puts him in roles where he needs to provide that, there will be criticism because he has shown time and time again that's not his game.
..don't make me beat you like a red-headed stepchild......
Agreed the Bonner and Blair combo is not ideal. Looking at the +/- Bonner was +14, Blair 0. Hopefully Splitter will give us another option which is more solid defensively.
great shooting yes, but still a major liability on D, and pop pulled him out in the 4th for that reason.
it was like everyone was playing a man, and bonner decided to zone. he was switching off his man at all the wrong times.
still... happy to see him put on a good shooting display.
but seriously, if he could pick up the D a little bit, he'd be a good weapon off the bench
Let's cut Bonner some slack here, he's a lock down defender when he isn't guarding anybody.
lol lol
lol
lol
that z so funny dammmm
exactly wut i wuz gunna say
He looks like he lost some weight, and his shot looked a little different on the release but I loved it. His defense looked decent yesterday on pick and rolls he stood in front of the other guards. I just remember him getting scored on twice. One was an easy drive the other was was a tough shot. Keep it up Bon.
, seems like whoever you talk about seems to prove you wrong time and time again..I say keep up the good work with all the nonsense you seem to think up and our championship chances will go up as well..
if he is making 3's he is an asset, if he isn't making 3's he is a liability
My problem with Bonner has never been about his regular season performances. As the lovers will constantly remind you of his game in Boston 2 or 3 years ago.
My problem is that he's a total non-factor in the playoffs. His shooting percentages dropped dramatically and he disappears when we need him most.
It's not his fault the talent level has been soft for the spurs that past few years, so he was relied on more. However, this year, with the young talent we have, Bonner should strictly be a 3 ball specialist and that's all. If he aint hitting send his ass to the bench.
Pop pulled hime out because he went micro-small in Q4, with RJ as the lone "big". Plus he had hit 25 minutes in his second game abck from injury.
Bonner plays good position defense, but he can't jump, which limits his effectiveness.
Doc
I will worry about that when the playoffs start...
