Slomo, that's a dig at Nash for 1.) being Canadian 2.) having long straggly hair, and 3.) speaking out about the war in Iraq (he & Dirk had comments last year that they were opposed to it).

I respect the player, but political commentary from a foriegn athlete/entertainer is about as noteworthy as our posts in the Spurstalk political forum. They don't really matter in the great scheme of things. I'm sure he was hounded and baited into making some sort of comment.
I did not know the source of his anti-americanism. Thanks for the info.

1.) I did not see the reference to him being Canadian (is he implying that Canadians stink and/or have dirty hair?). Anyway making fun of one's origin/citizenship is pretty low and in my book racist.

2.) I do not want to turn this into a political discussion but I never understood how being against the war in Iraq=anti american. I do not think it to be justified, but anybody that knows me would have a hard time to qualify me as an anti american.

It's sort of a good-natured ribbing that Americans have with Canadians... sort of a big brother/little brother thing. Certainly not racist, because most white Americans have about the same background as white Canadians. Besides, I think Nash is actually originally from South Africa or some other country in the dominion. Americans like (to make fun of) Canadians, and vice versa.

This is my first post on this forum, so here it goes. First of all, it is nice to play a team that has respect for our Spurs. Secondly, it's about time. Every year we get one of these up and coming teams in the West that think they can get the best of us and it always ends up the same way, Spurs win! This year has been no different. The Nuggets. The Sonics. And now, the Suns. Any style these teams throw at us, it just doesn't matter. Our Spurs just know how to win. That's the bottom line.
All that run and gun has finally caught up to the Suns, not to mention the amount of minutes their guys play. They'll still get tired at the end come Saturday. They'll still miss the shots that matter most. The SBC crazies won't let them come in here and get away with one. Guts can only carry you so far. The end is near for the Suns. Nice try though.

I know about the good natured ribbing between the American and Canadian - I just did not recognize it in that post. The body odour part seemed exagerated. But If it's all it was I'll have to take your word for it.

Back on topic, nice post, Mikester!

What's got everyone so excited is that the Spurs ARE taking care of business, and stepping up when it counts like they did in the championship years of 1999 & 2003. There have been major disappointments in the past, but you just get the feeling that this team really has what it takes to win it all.

And the Suns will make the Spurs work for it, you can bet on that. I don't think we could ask for a more entertaining series if the Spurs keep on pulling it out like they have, though.
