Because great players who play in New York traditionally have won the MVP over more deserving players?
If Amar''''''e wins it, it won't be because he's in NY.

To those saying Dwight is # 1, I strongly disagree. I would say Orlando's impressive winning streak was more due to the recent addition of Hedo Turkoglu who appears to be back to his own productive ways, Jason Richardson who has been a much effective player than Vince Carter and most notably the steady play of Brandon Bass. Even when Dwight struggled, Bass was the reason the Magic were able to pull a victory against the Celtics on Christmas Day.
Again, Amar'e has explosive numbers, that much is true, but I dont know if the Knicks will continue to win at this pace to give him enough 1st place votes to win the MVP. Their record has been surprising but they have fallen when paired against quality EC teams (Miami, Orlando, Boston). IMO, an MVP caliber player needs to cme up big against quality opponents in the regular season. The Knicks have only 2 impressive victories, one against the Spurs and the other against the Bulls earlier this season, but Amar'e struggled in that game, the win was more because of the surprising play of Toney Douglas and the usual contribution from Danilo Gallinari.
The MVP is for Dirk's to lose. The only thing againts him is time. He needs to get back on the court ASAP and help push the Mavs to another winning streak.
The Top 5 right now IMO
Dirk
Wade
Rose
Lebron
Dwight
Its Dirk's MVP. Look how the mavs are struggling without him.
(see logic from Nash's 1st MVP with the Suns. They did so poorly without him when he was out. Never mind that had no healthy point guard at that time...)
shut ur fat ass..
son, for da dumb got u are u do make an effort to prove you incapacity towards da finer aspects of the rationale such as actually expressing a point of view.
Well i guess not takin it in el culo from yo papi makes u nervousgtfo .
Dwight WILL NEVER be the mvp by playing like he played against boston. You can never be the mvp by being such dumb. He has improved his post game but his passing and his judgement are horrible.
Dirk is too one dimesional to be the mvp. Just cause the mavs are build around him and are one dimensional as a style (just like him) just exposes their (historic) flaw. Dirks soft d and weak rebounding are well hidden in da mavs system but they still exists for anyone not blinded to not see dem.
Rose is playing great but his defense is suspect. I know u s gon jump on my how he must leave his man in thib's system but same happened in da olympics and im not buyin it. Plus that 40 percent from downtown is bound to lower and defenses are gonna heavily pack the paint against him. Furthermore his style of play will inflict injuries that will cut his pt.
Bron/wade. When did bron score 30 and when did wade. Plus if u *watch* da games u'll see bron defense >> wades. Remember ray allen dwade? Yeah u gotta fight through da screens. Yeah u gotta mark your man not go 4 da steal. Defense alone make da difference. Plus bron can PACE a game, a thang dat dwade never could.
Amare mvp. Lmao sons. Mvp of what? a team that will finish wit 0.600. Give me a break. A playa dat dont rebound (look him "fight" for position lol)
Kobe should suck a ima not waste my writin skillz on him.
Timmy dont have da stats.
what an unimpressive troll
Cavs no longer have Shaq, Zadrunas, Andy, and Delonte. You add those four and they have a much better record.
It would take an impressive amount of wins & streak for the Heat for Lebron to win a third straight MVP. I think Rose has a higher chance of winning it before Lebron does and we all know the odds are already stacked against Rose at the moment.
so no way a Spur wins it even if they tear up the regular season?
I agree with Jamstone's list, although I would slide Rose in there, too..
I'd have Howard over Nowitzki right now, due to Howard playing more games..if Dirk ends up playing a high amount of games and the Mavs end up in the top 3 in the West, I would probably take Nowitzki..
Howard was my pre-season pick though, so I'll stick with that..
Gosh that avy picture Harl;em ...come on keep that on your private files ...
The Nowitzki obsession on this board continues. The argument that "the Mavs suck without him, so he should win it", is ridiculous.
Take Howard off the Magic or Rose off the Bulls and they'd suck, too. That's because the former has no other post player over 6'8 and a cadre of poor defenders. As such, they'd instantly turn into a sieve defensively. The latter would lack a shot creator, putting even more of a strain on their defense.
The point is, the Mavs sucking without Nowitzki has more to do with the composition of their roster than it does with how good Nowitzki is. That's not a knock on him, though.
Well, the Knicks are playing 600 basketball (.610 is 50 wins) so I think Amar'e is well on his way.
Shaq missed a lot of last season and barely had an impact. Delonte also missed the majority of last season with his mental issues and Andy is still there just recently got injured. Come on Luva you are reaching.
For me Rose is out of this discussion, he is even not the best PG of the league.
Top 5 IMO Amare, Dirk, Lebron, Wade, Howard then Durant (after a difficult beginning of the season he is back on track compared to last year)
Dirk should win, but...
...this is true also.
lol bleacher report
When you look a the Bulls, they have beaten a bunch of good teams, and have had injuries
They started the season without Boozer, and Noah has been injured
My vote goes to Rose
Yestrerday's game was a good example why people shouldn't consider Amar'e as a serious MVP candidate. He simply struggles against very good teams. I also don't believe the Knicks will maintain winning at this pace. D'Antoni coached teams always ran a too predictable offense. The difference this time is he doesn't have as much talent like he does in Pheonix.
And I'm going to be firm in my opinion that Dwight is not an MVP this year. He made some ikey mprovements on his offense, but nothing noteworthy. Every big man MVP had great offensive skillset (Duncan, Robinson, Olajuwon, Shaq, Garnett, Malone) as a matter of fact every MVP winner for the past 20 years had great offensive production. Dwight's 21 PPG is not going to cut it.
