Parker is NOT top 5. Top 10 yes. But Rose, D. Williams, CP3, Westbrook, and Rondo are all easily better than him. All are younger as well. I would rather having a play making PG any day of the week than a scoring PG. Just a week ago everyone on this website was killing Parker for his terrible TO's and lack of clutch play. He has one 17 assist game and now he is the 3rd best PG in the NBA??? He can't play D and is a streaky shooter, mediocre passer. Short short memories.

Bottom of the top 5, if he wasn't in such a funk earlier he would most likely be fighting for a top 3 spot.

Having said that. I have loved the play style of TP the last 3-4 games. He has looked pretty damn great as a felicitate by being a distributor instead of a scorer. Going forward in his career he will probably stay more relevant in the league if he changes his style to accommodate his dwindling speed.

IIRC this is the guy who thought we should lay off Pop cause none of the bad FO decisions were his fault.

lol really bro? seriously.. lets put their stats on the table then
This season, going with PER, you have Paul and Rose (around 24) above a group of player ranking from #3 Nash (22.5) to#15 Jordan Farmar (20.09).
    Parker is #6 with 21.4

Unless you want to discuss how much difference tenths of PER points make, stats will not really help you this time.

    Edit:
It's actually amazing how many PG have PER above 20 at this point of the season. I assume that with the lockout the team plays are more basics giving more opportunities for those who can create (for themselves or a teammate).

Westbrook is the worst volume shooter in the NBA, and the whole of his playmaking abilities starts and ends with playing alongside Kevin Durant. Westbrook is still shooting the best of his career but still shooting lower % than Parker who is having the worst shooting season of his career (if you exclude his rookie year).

Not only Westbrook isn't "easily better than Parker", he is actually not even as good, and is 100% piggy-backing on Durant.

As for Deron Williams, he is averaging a career-high 4.3 turnovers per game (whereas Parker averages only 2.6 "terrible turnovers") and shooting a measly 39% from the field.

If its a question of how valuable they have been to their teams then I believe Parker is top 3. In terms of overall play this season he's top 5. Rondo and CP3 have been hurt. Westbrook is meh. Rose and Lowry have been great.

I was expecting this to be just home town puffing. So I went to the better than PER Hollinger stat, VA (which includes playing time). (Unless you think Manu is the MVP of league right now.)

    1) Rose
    2) Parker
    3) Westbrook
    4) Jennings
    5) Nash
    6) Lowry
    7) Paul
    8) Lou Williams
    9) Jack
    10) Deron Williams
    44T) Ford

    Wow!

i cant' be bothered copying and pasting stats right now..

i don't believe in PER tbh.. ive alreayd pointed out loopholes in hollinger's oh so esteemed ratings system that some ppl on this forum (not this thread) choose to ignore..

i'll reiterate.. i'm talking about literally right now.. since december 25th.. i already know rondo/cp3/dwill and nash can make cases for being more valuable , than parker..
i'm also saying that parker isn't a clear cut lock at #3 most valuable pg in the league but he makes a strong case at it..

    my rankings are:

    1. D-Rose
    2. Cp3
3a. Tony Parker 3b. Kyle Lowery 3c. Rajon Rondo

the last 3 don't really standout clearly over one another but i can't find any better pg playing better than who i just mentioned..

IMO parker's numbers went up because of ginobili being absent.. he's not just having hot shooting streak or anything like that

It also shows that the more talent you have in your team, the less your stats can be impressive!

If Tony hadn't played his whole career with another playmaker in Manu, his assist number average would be closer to the other Elite PGs....

cp3 is overrated, if his that good, the clippers should be winnin

deron = his stats are below across the board even on a team around him, he could be statpadding, but still doing jack

westbrook = exposed everytime he chucks up

As much as I dislike CP3, the Clippers are 2nd in the West, ahead of SA.

I dont care where you rank Tony in relation to the rest of the PG.

He IS the MVP of the Spurs. He has taken over the role of playmaker for the Spurs and is getting the high assist count while Manu is out. He has handled the ball 36 mins a game where with Manu, TP handles the ball only about 60-65% of the time as PG. Manu gets the rest.

If we're going by stats then Parker and Westbrook are pretty even.

I would put Parker around the 4-7th range, but capable of putting up pretty big numbers. Obviously his value isn't as high as some younger guys because of age, but also unlike the "potential" of the young guns, Parker has been there, done that. We have seen him play and perform on the highest stage - 3 rings and a Finals MVP.

Pop's system is such that it really doesn't require a 10 assist per game player. Moving the ball around until you find the open man is the name of the game. I would bet over the last 7 years if they had a hockey type assist stat (you get credit it the guy scores from the pass after the initial pass), Parker's numbers would be fairly elite.

With Ginobili out, and Duncan decline, there has been many times without Parker's scoring ability, the Spurs would be in trouble....so having more of a scoring first guard has shown its benefits. I do agree that the more he starts to dish, the longer his career will be. His mid-range, floater, and scoring in the paint are absolutely elite level.

I would like him to keep working on his corner three.....hit that anywhere around 38% or higher, and that makes his driving game all the more better...

Look, Parker is really good. But don't put down Paul, he's ahead of Parker, even when he's fallen off a relative cliff since two years ago. He is a super efficient shooter, assists a lot and doesn't turn the ball over. Parker is in the debate at 3, but that's the peak.

Westbrook is great, but he is overrated if you're putting him in the top 3. I don't think he's any better than Parker.

Rose and CP3 are obviously better, though I'll venture out to say that Paul seems to be at a lesser level than he was in NO.

How about Kyle Lowry? Not top 5 obviously, but put him in the mix of the top 10 talks at least.

Top Three: Paul, Williams and Rose
Middle Three: Parker and Nash both over Westbrook IMO
Lots in mix for next 4

Parker is locked into that 4-7 range depending on your criteria. Even a streak of great games isn't going to change that.
