I'm glad he made the right choice on the issue.

Might make re-election more difficult in the short term, but he's on the right side of history now.

You think this was a risky political move that will make it harder for his reelection?

I think this was a smart political move to try and destroy Romney with social distractions like the contraception issue destroyed Santorum. The problem is that Romney is not a culture warrior. He is sticking to the economy which is smart. That is the one area where Obama can't compete.

Well, young people are more supportive of gay marriage, but getting out the youth vote is always a challenge. I think a few voters who voted for him grudgingly last time around will probably not vote for him this time specifically because their pastor will tell them they are going to if they vote for a gay marriage supporter.

The economy is still a big issue, but most people don't understand it. It's hard to make issues that people don't understand resonate deeply. That's why the "culture war" issues like gay marriage, abortion, etc. were invented. These wedge issues are ultimately pretty silly, but they're cut and dry. And people can take extreme positions on one side or the other, and subsequently vote based on that preference.

Apparently that was the headline before they wisely changed it. I didn't see it myself but it was picked up a lot of places.

I'll never live that down, will I?

tbh, I don't feel that way anymore. Seeing them live a few years ago with DLR helped. My feelings about Van Hagar were driven mainly by nostalgia, since that's the version of VH I grew up listening to most.

There will always be a place in my heart for much of 5150 and F.U.C.K., but I lose more interest in the Hagar stuff with every listen.

Anyone who depends on their pastor to determine who they should vote for would have already been voting against Obama because of Obama's pro-choice stance on abortion.

True. However, Romney's job is not to focus on the specifics of the economy because no one can follow, but rather, reiterate that people are not happy with the state of the economy today. People understand gimmick politics like are you making more money today than you were three years ago or do you pay more for gas today than you did thre years ago. Neither issue has anything to do with the president. But it sure pisses people off.

"reiterate that people are not happy with the state of the economy today"

but why won't W. Gecko say the economy cratered deeply before a couple years before Hussein was elected, and that Repugs have blocked all Hussein attempts at stimulus?

It's a move to get the younger generations that got him elected to vote again after 3 years of him playing Uncle Tom and doing almost nothing he campaigned on.
What about that website that showed all of the promises he kept which exceeded the promises he broke?

I just wished he had introduced his comments by saying, "I have decided that my position on this issue has moved to the same position as that of not only my own VP, but of the previous administration's VP, Cheney, as well.
