Green has more upside than Neal. Its a shame his shot was off because we needed his defense.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is his first full season as a Spur and his first NBA post-season right? And he did play really well in the first two series, did he not?
Not everyone is Stephen Jackson, primed for the big stage from the word "go". I bring h back if I'm RC. He's a good role player.

He'll go where the money is (and he should). Maybe he priced himself into our range with his poor play.
I wouldn't mind having him back next season tbh.
there's hope for Green but Bonner needs to get the out of SA
Kawhi Leonard is also playing in his 1st playoffs, and he showed up vs. OKC, while having the task of defending the best scorer in the NBA..
Gary Neal showed up last year, in his first playoffs, against a Grizzlies team that would have killed the Jazz or Clippers..
Poor excuse for not showing up against OKC..
Who cares about the sweeps, I'd much rather have lost six games going into the WCF, and ultimately won the series.
also is the mid range jump shot all but gone? damn...i could make a living off of mid range jump shot in the NBA .. We need guys that will pull up and hit the midrange jumper. lost art !
He's a muffugin role player you idiot. If he had a complete game, he'd be superstar. Good defensive player that mostly stays within his game and shoots a high percentage on spot-up jumpers. Spurs need players like that.
price range?..any team that pays for Danny Green will be embarrassed by mid-season..
I don't understand where he got a reputation for being a good defender..he's average, at best..if he was a notable defender, he wouldn't have been placed in the dog house for his erratic offense, Pop would have extended his leash..
he's not even a good defensive player..
He's an average defender on an average defensive team..
he's here for spot-up shooting?..he definitely displayed his spot-up shooting vs. OKC..
He's Bonner/Jefferson 2.0, sorry..
OKC gave him good looks, he didn't respond..
The Spurs have had enough soft chokers in the post-2007 era..they don't need another one..let him go to the Raptors or Kings..

The Goods.
He's still improving. I'd like to see if he can keep developing into a Bruce Bowen/Raja Bell style elite defensive player. As well as get a little less streaky with his offense. Remember, thanks to the lockout, he hasn't had a real offseason with the Spurs yet.
He has the potential to be a real asset over the next 5-10 years, and I'd like for him to stick around and see if he can achieve it.
And where was Neal in this series? I don't see you calling for him to GTFO. He was pathetic in this series...not making shots, taking terrible ones, and oh yeah...playing his usual D (e.g. getting taken off the dribble by Fisher).
As for Kawai, I think the kid has superstar potential, but even he was frazzled and overwhelmed in this series at times.
elite defensive player?..
Hahahahahahahah..
Neal was bricking as many shots as Green, and playing much worse defence. Honestly, if we're getting rid of players based on a bad showing in this series, I'd be happier to see the back of Neal rather than Green
I've got news for some of you guys, Green was the best defensive 2-guard this team had this year. And yes, he was better than Manu. Anyone who watched the games could see that.
As a matter of fact, the Spurs are better much defensively on the perimeter with both Green and Leonard in the starting lineup.
Now if they can get a young, rugged, bulldog of a power forward to go along side of Duncan, they'll be significantly improved on the backline.
neal and green would not care if either on of them are back
both have major issues
That isn't saying much on a ty defensive squad.
It's sad that the Spurs haven't found a 4th guy/role player that has panned out since Bruce, Barry, and Horry retired.
Hill? Gone. Jefferson? Gone. Mason? Gone. Blair? Nothing more than a 5th big. Neal? Has his moments but his defense is too limited. Splitter? Maybe, but he needs to toughen up.
Leonard and Jackson own those roles for now. Hopefully Leonard doesn't fall to the "2nd year" curse the above guys go through. But I trust Leonard will come the closest.
I'm not a fan of Neal, either, I just used him as an example..
Realistically, both Neal and Green are 9th men on good NBA teams, they shouldn't be relied upon as rotation players on le teams..
At least Neal has balls, though, unlike Danny Bogans Jefferson Bonner Green..
this wouldve been his sopho year
imo he still has upside
gary neal might have the balls to take shots, but how many of them are him chuckin up stupid shots, while giving up as many pts on the other end with his pathetic defense
I agree with HarlemHeat.
I'm over Green. He can take the qualifying offer. If not, good luck to his next team.
I thought going into this year that he was a fringe player. And then it looked for a long time that he was some legit guy. But no, he was just a legit out of rotation role player for a contender. Just a playoff choker.
He's replaceable. He's not Stephen Jackson in 03. He's just a guy. Guys like him and Alonzo Gee are always going to be available on the streets.
Neal is not worth spending on either. I liked him more than Mason when he first started with the Spurs, when he gave effort on defense. Now that he's 'made it' and Pop doesn't care about defense anymore, he's just a slightly better shooting Mason. I'd take my chances bringing De Colo over and just trade Neal.
I hope he comes back. The guy did pretty well for us during the season and given another year and training camp and off-season workouts he should be even better this year. He's proven he's a great player and I'm glad he wants to stay with the Spurs.
Right now all our young guys are going through what Thunder players went through in years past. More importantly the Thunder kept it together and so should we. It's one reason I don't want to get rid of Blair, the Spurs have invested a lot in him already and if he's going to put it all together he'll pay off really well for us. The time to abandon Blair has passed. There needs to be some consistency with his and everyone else's minutes, especially come playoff time. We need some toughness and Pop needs to stick with players getting their minutes even if a game looks like a lost effort. Our players learned a lot this season I hope we keep the majority of our players for next year and they show us what they can bring given a second chance.
