Pass. He's done
This.
First Kapono now TMac...wtf?
Kapono is a three point shooter, McGrady is a player. He's gotten the experience of being the guy who once was a top 3 player in the world. He's a veteran of the game who can distribute the ball well. He's got good length for a SF and he can play some point. Few people understand the game of basketball like he does, I'd take him for the vet min absolutely.
Only thing I can see out of this I Spurs are shopping at least one of their forwards and maybe guards. I dont want to see Jackson go, but if its to better the team I understand the sacrifice.
I could only see this going down if we moved Neal and/or S-Jax. If that trade improves our front court, and we sign Mcgrady after, I would be onboard with the move.
I always thought he was a guard, not a SF. But I would take him behind Kawhi and Jack....
I've said it before, in this league I'm fine collecting as many 6'7" to 6'10" guys who can play 2 or more positions. TMac fits that bill. Spurs just doing their due diligence though.
Like Jackson, he played more SG in his prime, but at 6-8, 225, with limited athleticism/speed/quickness left, he's clearly strictly a SF at this point. The guard skills remain, but he can no longer defend SG's.
He was my second favorite player in the early aughts, but I don't want him. He's not a good fit with the Spurs, for a myriad of reasons. 1) He's still best with the ball in his hands, as a point forward type. 2) He's an erratic outside shooter. 3) He's a sub par defender. 4) He's not a great compe or or teammate.
He had super skill set early in his career but after 14 seasons and a serious leg injury a few years ago I don't see him as still a player, especially at a position where some mobility and quickness are needed.
Several teams have given up on him and I wonder if his at ude is still bad about not being able to start. He was a cancer in Houston when he came back from his injury because he wanted his old job back, but apparently couldn't cut it physically any more.
He's One of those vets who hasn't realized it's probably time to hang 'em up.
The defense was better last year in the playoffs and it really highlighted how much of a weak link Neal and Bonner are. Manu also showed some slips and I think that is more accountability than anything. Pop is going to claim their too old to defend well but he's still got to hold them more accountable.
One (perhaps) positive thing is that Blair and Neal are two of the three worst defenders on the team, and they're the most likely to get moved or cut given their non-guaranteed contracts. The Spurs should be able to squeeze out a mid-to-high 2nd rounder for at least one of them. A 1st-rounder is highly unlikely, unless maybe the Spurs package both.
this is what i hope happens. Then use the 3 remaining roster spots to sign Kenyon Martin, Fesenko, & Derrick Brown.
I want the Spurs to win a playoff series. DO NOT WANT.
13 points in 35 seconds
LMAO that was devastating
^At least that season ended in a le. I'd take that tradeoff any day.
Sign TMAC to backup Leonard
Sign Fesenko (heard we're having a look at him, you cant teach size)
then maybe that's all we'd need but...
Trade any combo of Blair Bonner and Neal for a mobile athletic defensive big man and we're in the hunt.

Tmac was very good, great even, for a time, but I don't think he was ever a top three player in the world.
Yea he was never top three in the world. He was top 3 SG for the first half of his career. would even go as far to say he was best SG in league for a year or 2.
Spurs working out TMac also shows that Spurs' situation is a little more complicate than the "we love our team" said by RC and Pop back in July. You don't bring a player with TMac past to a workout without a serious intend of signing him. Spurs FO is still trying to improve the team and I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade happening between now and the start of the training camp.
With Sjax salary the only big men out their in perhaps a multi team scenario that might make a splash is Josh Smith and Amare. Not sure what Ferry would want with Smith in his last year, but it would probably be centered around picks, which we do not have many of.
If it is Amare, it could make sense in that it would give NY some cash relief, fix a chemistry issue, and beef up their bench, but they would have to take back quite a few players to match salaries, thus the reason to look at filler level players. Probably will never happen, but just a hunch.
maybe Jax + splitter & some picks for Josh Smith might get it done. not really willing to give up that much for a possible 1 year rental.
You can say that until the cows come home, but that doesn't always mean there will be a cause-effect relationship. Tracy is a friggin third string forward. He's going to ROT on the end of the bench behind Leonard and Jackson.
Holy sh%t...Yeah, that might do it.
