For $250 or more I don't think having these worries is real cool.
Is there a prob w/using a diff site? Just wondering.
My personal preference is XPerts, for the following reasons:

    (1) Cost = $60. CBS, which is the other site I think you are referring to, is $140 - last I heard.

    (2) Content - XPerts provides good information on player news - which is gravy in my opinion, since I use another site as my primary source of information, but it provides one stop shopping for league members who don't want to scour the net or subscribe to pay-for-news services. I seem to recall CBS bit hard on a fake news story last year on a Portis "injury."

    (3) Support - is second to none. I get very rapid responses to problems at XPerts. In fact, on Sunday's (and other days too) I can get the site owner's attention via instant messenger. Also, I can usually get very quick feedback from site experts in the support forum, and so can anyone else.

    (4) Little to no advertising on XPerts; no litany of email promotions either.

Regarding the detractions, and there are a couple, namely live scoring and the draft engine.

    (1) The draft engine is pseudo live - it auto-refreshes every 30 seconds. It's not as slick as Yahoo's, but I've used it several times and I'm pretty comfortable with it. I do need to mess around with pre-rankings and cheetsheets to better help league players with their questions.

    (2) Live scoring - I probably sound like a broken record, but, live scoring was a problem last year for most, if not all, fantasy football websites. Things are supposed to be better this year. Whether that is true remains to be seen.

In conclusion, I like XPerts more because of the way they exemplilfy the old Avis adage - they try harder, and thus I'm willing to put up with a few growing pains. Yeah, you have to be a bit of a geek to work it, but once you got it, it's sweet.

That said, if a majority vote for another site, I'll gladly run the league from another site.

I'm all ears for arguments endorsing another site.

That's the main issue to me. I don't think we should pay upwards of $100 to play.

In all fairness, that comes out to about $7 extra per person, in a 12 team league, which is small compared to the $250 deposited into the prize fund, but still, the NFL/CBS is still scamming the public.

Other sites I've used that had easier/better draft services where of course CBS, SandBox & Yahoo was OK too. Xpert is the only other one I've used & well, by far the worst.
    My main concerns are:
    1) Ease of Draft..a complicated system can ruin a team..OK if it is a free league BUT..
    2) Ease of Free Agency..SEE ABOVE
    2) Accuracy of scoring..that is why we might want to have (1) site as the official

How does the draft at Expert work? We didn't draft there last year so I'm curious as to the complications (Yeah, I know I can go look myself).

On most sites you can compile a cheatsheet that defaults as your "draft" list & I don't see that on Xpert. If you rank each position it only allows 13 players..That is waaaay to low a #. I also didn't see a SAVE option but rather a Submit option that later couldn't be edited. I gave up after 15min.

Regarding the draft - it's pretty straightforward. You have a draftboard in the left panel, and a player listing in the middle, bottom third panel where you can select players from a list sortable by position.

You do have to work it a little with regards to refreshing.

Regarding cheatsheets and pre-rankings, have you looked at the drop-down menu on the War Room link?

So you have to refresh DURING the draft. It doesn't update itself?

Once you are logged in, click on Leagues, then select Survivor Leagues; then click on "Timer" to sort by how much time you have to make your pick. Most likely, you will want to pick a draft with a 2 minute timer. Once you are in, then click on Home, then My Survivor Leagues. From here, you can periodically check to see if the league is filling up with players.

It is a complex site to navigate, but once you learn your way around, it's very cool.
Alright, Thanks. I'll do that then cause I had no idea what to do.

I still cannot figure out the catch. For a second I thought maybe this was for public leagues only, but nope, it's for private leagues too. I do see that customized scoring is not listed as an option.

    Eureka! I found the answer.

Q: What is the difference between your Fantasy 2005 game and the League Manager product?

A: If you want to create a fantasy football league for a group of your friends, League Manager 2005 lets you set up and run the league. Acting as the League Commissioner you can customize the scoring system, the rules and the schedule based on your wants and needs. In Fantasy 2005, you can own a team in an existing league and compete against other users. For those leagues, we act as commissioner and set all the rules for you. You simply manage your team and try to beat the rest of the league.
So, in essence, we can use CBS Sportsline for free, if we are willing to accept their default scoring rules. This is cool with me, so long as I know the scoring rules entereing the draft. In fact, I'd probably like their defaults over our current settings.

I've never used CBS, but I've heard many favorable opinions on its user interface.

I'm down with FREE if every one else is.

This also washes my hands of any responsibilities running the league. Not sure how something like collusion between two teams would be handled by NFL.

Looks like there would HAVE to be 12 teams in the league.

    Here is what I have:

I would like for missed field goals to be negatively worth more and to increase the range. I propose:

    1-20 miss (-4)
    21-30 miss (-3)
    31-40 miss (-2)
    41+ miss (-1)

Also, I'm not sure if it is a given can I also see an updated rules sheet with +2 for 2 point conversions and -2 for fumbles lost.

What about recievers or running backs who return kicks for tds, any points for that?

I do not think we have to go any higher on the price, the kiddies are definitely out.

I do not want xpertleagues. It is a format that tries to be simple and easy to use, but is not. I keep having to remember what tabs to click where for this and that and cannot find something fast. Also, if I remember correctly Matt had to contact the website numerous times about "gliches."

NFL.com looks very tempting, even with the standard scoring - if it is actually standard. Yahoo is too expensive.

That's all I have for now.

I'm down for free too -- like you said as long as we know the settings ahead of time and it's not something outrageous in the scoring.

Well, getting 12 teams would seem to be the biggest hitch with establishing a league at NFL.com.

To all those participating in Fantasy Football 2005-2006 (namely those in the $250 league), there will be a chat on Sunday, July 10 at 10:00 p.m. Please reply if you are not able to come. Johnny Blaze and Alamo Spurs Fan - Matt needs an affirmative update from you.
