What is the Bahamas like?

So I'm looking into honeymoon destinations at the moment.

The Fiancee mentioned the Bahamas as somewhere she may like to go. Being a honeymoon we want somewhere relaxing so the tourist side of things isn't of particular interest it's more about the location itself and how scenic it is blah blah blah

I've never been and haven't had any friends who have been either so can anyone share opinions/experiences/suggestions about the place? (or the other islands around that area)

I have been to the Bahamas. It is nice, but I was small and don't remember much.

More recently I have been to Hawaii (twice), and I have to say I have been extremely impressed, and would go back in a heartbeat if I could. So much to do. Maui is great for just relaxing on the beach. Plenty of awesome resorts, restaurants, shopping centers, etc also. Honolulu is a short 15 min. flight or boat ride away from Maui.
