So I'm looking into honeymoon destinations at the moment.

The Fiancee mentioned the Bahamas as somewhere she may like to go. Being a honeymoon we want somewhere relaxing so the tourist side of things isn't of particular interest it's more about the location itself and how scenic it is blah blah blah

I've never been and haven't had any friends who have been either so can anyone share opinions/experiences/suggestions about the place? (or the other islands around that area)

Stayed at Atlantis on Paradise Island. Incredibly nice. Great food. Casino on premises. Very expensive.

Never been to the Bahamas, so I have no opinion on it. Howeva, if I was to pick a honeymoon destination it would be Grand Cayman. Beautiful, clean and there is plenty to do.

I hope like o you don't mean Victoria in Australia. Where and what is this Victoria you speak of?

Ah, very nice. Beaches look pretty amazing, is it crowded? We both love the beach. Just how expensive? I unfortunately live in the most expensive state in Australia so I'm used to it tbh.

I always figured the Cayman Island was some hole as the only time I've ever heard it mentioned is in movies when talking about hiding money

You have been to Grand Cayman then? Can you tell me anymore about it.

Btw, thanks for the help gentlemen

RT, I'd go to New Zealand's South Island. God that place is ing amazing. Even better that it's not a 12 hour flight for you.

That is a long flight mate!

Do you really need to go that far? You have all of southeast Asia right by you.

Grand Cayman beats them all, but itīs expensive. They call it "Grand" for a reason.

While we're talking about beaches, anyone ever been to the Cook Islands? Those look awesome.

I've already been there, damn nice place for sure but I don't want to go there again just yet.

I've done a lot of southeast Asia as well.. I live on the west coast of Australia so South-East Asia is basically like going on a 3 hour trip.. not particularly exciting for a honeymoon. Grand Cayman sounds interesting, would love to go somewhere ridiculously nice.

While we're talking about beaches, anyone ever been to the Cook Islands? Those look awesome.
We have been looking at that one as well... We initially wanted to go to Bora Bora but I just can't justify paying $3500 each for flights. I would rather pay $1500-$2000 in flights and have more money for accommodation/everything else.

I've been three times...all with cruises. The first time we went on an island tour, the second we swam with the stingrays and went to the sea turtle farm and the third time we spent the day at the beach. I was impressed all three times. You are right about the money, which makes the banking industry huge there. This is the backbone of the economy and the reason everything on the island is so nice. It's nothing like some of the independent islands that are holes(still technically a British territory but they have thier own government and currency). There was literally no place on the island that felt threatening or dangerous at all. There were regular people out jogging or riding bikes around the island everywhere we went.

I'm sure you will want to stay at a resort and there are several nice ones that we passed during the island tour. The Ritz-Carlton looked pretty impressive at first glance.

I've been to the Bahamas a couple of times and it was very nice but suffocatingly hot in September and November. I have an eastern Caribbean vacation coming up in about 17 days and I'm looking forward to checking out some places I've never been Jamaica and Grand Cayman.

I think a honeymoon at the Great Barrier Reef or anywhere in French Polynesia would be lovely, much closer to you too. Also the outer islands of Hong Kong are amazing for beaches, mountains, hiking; probably the most beautiful place I've been.

You wouldn't be at all likely to see them from any place in New Zealand. Even in the south tip around Invercargill or Stewart Island you need a once in a couple of months level solar flare for them to be visible low on the southern horizon, assuming clear skies (which is a big assumption around Stewart Island). For it to be overhead you need a once in a few years or maybe even once in a decade level solar flare. If you really want to see auruora you should really go somewhere like Fairbanks, Alaska, Tromso, Norway, Iceland, etc in the winter (so that you actually have some night time). Even Oban on Stewart Island is only 46.5 degrees la udde, which isn't anywhere near close enough to have a good shot at catching aurora. There's pretty much nowhere in the southern hemisphere other than parts of Anarctica and some islands around it where you have a decent shot at seeing Aurora Australis on a given night.

NZ's great for seeing waterfalls (especially the Fiordland area), thick rainforest, glaciers, penguins, whales, lots of parrots, skiing, hiking, etc, but the lights aren't something to expect there. It is pretty awesome to see the Magellanic Clouds though (2 of the only 3 galaxies you can see with the naked eye on Earth I believe, and they're far brighter than the Andromeda Galaxy, which is the only one that can be seen from anywhere more than a bit north from the equator). But you can see those two galaxies pretty much anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere if you have a somewhat dark night sky.

I personally think the Bahamas, outside of the resorts, are a hole.

Grand Cayman is nice, but far from tropical...it is more like a desert island feel, very flat, 7 mile beach is nice, the scuba diving is some of the best in the world. As a whole it is not overly impressive.

I would personally go somewhere in the eastern Caribbean. If you want excessively nice, try St. Barts...It is pretty expensive though. The BVIs (British Virgin Islands) are also extremely nice, probably the nicest place I have been to in the Caribbean.

Are you looking for something in particular? Diving, great beaches, jungle/tropical, great resorts?
