Many wants him.
The most important Spanish clubs and one of the most predominant from Italy are targeting and “fighting” to land Fabricio Oberto, whose main priority is making the NBA while he calmly waits.
Three of the four best teams in Spain (Champs Real Madrid, Barcelona and Unicaja Malaga) and which be participating in the Euroleague next season, have the “cordobes” (Oberto) as “the star” to hire. Meanwhile Italian Benetton Treviso, which is also playing the Euroleague, is one of the most interested on Oberto.
“Oberto is the most wanted” was the headline of Marca newspaper, last Saturday. Presidents Florentino Perez (Madrid) and Joan Laporta (Barcelona) agreed and provided the euros required to sign him. The same sports newspaper added “The Argentinean forward is atop of Barza and Madrid’s agenda as well as Unicaja and Benetton’s. However Oberto is fully intended to try the NBA and is waiting a convincing offer from San Antonio Spurs”.
Unicaja’s HC Sergio Scariolo demanded Oberto staying before his re-signing and that was promised by the club managers. Otherwise Scariolo might leave the club, according to “Malaga Hoy” (newspaper).
When Oberto left Pamesa Valencia, said his priority was the NBA, but staying in Europe is a possibility on teams taking part in the Euroleague. He is waiting for the NBA.
Oberto hopes for a formal proposal. Last week RC Buford, Spurs GM, said that he was interested on him and Luis Scola. NBA teams are just starting their off season moves by signing the best free agents and then they’ll go after new players.
