Tony went through about the Kidd stuff after the 2003 championship.
exactly, signing Kidd costs us Manu. Some of the best moves are the ones never made.

+1
P1 ftw
Never wanted Kidd back then, still posting in the "other" message board. Always have the faith that TP's good enough as our starting PG, while having a foresight & believe in Manu, with his promising dynamism, leadership, and court vision, everything that Kidd could have offered with less money & off the court baggage to boot. Too bad having cap space wasn't as useful as of now.
- Parker for Omri Casspi
- Parker for Brandon Rush
I'll never forget when Jermaine O'Neal re-signed with the Pacers instead of us and then Isaiha Thomas was fired as their HC shortly after and O'Neal was pissed and said that had he know Thomas was going to be fired, he would've signed with SA. I was pissed too. We would've won another ship.
Honestly, I'm glad for that one to get AJ's number in the rafters.
Jermaine O'Neal was never worth that contract. He was a low percentage shooter even in his prime and it's not like he was any kind of elite rebounder either. And then the last 3 years of his deal formed one of the worst cap-killing contracts in NBA history. You basically had Richard Jefferson but needed to pay him twice as much. He was owed $82 million those final three years when he had devolved into complete scrub, not even good for spot minutes.
At first I didn't want Kidd, but later I did if it would have somehow cost us Parker and not Manu. Hindsight I was wrong
Seemed like a foregone conclusion at one point. I was totally against it as I was a big Parker fan at the time and knew he had a ton of potential.

I had a lot of arguments with Whottt on this subject...
He was right.![]()
RIP Whottt Really enjoyed his takes.
Talk about a Collectors Item! Wonder what Manu did with that jersey? Speaking of untested...I thought I heard or read the Seattle SuperSonics were wanting to trade us Gary Payton for Tony Parker on draft night. That would have been something.
I remember Don Harris said he'd rather have Shaq over Duncan on his radio show back in the day.
The Spurs later got Beno and everything was forgiven![]()
I never wanted Kidd either. Though Kidd was a master floor general, Parker was still the better outside shooter even then. The Spurs have just come off a championship and there was really no need for Kidd. That whole summer courtship of Kidd was ridiculous. Thank God he spurned the Spurs advances and stayed in New Jersey.
Just cringing at the fact that the Spurs were thinking of trading Parker just to get rid of RJ
Hated that er (Don Harris) & channel 4!
Avery Johnson!! His number should never have been up there!
They offered Payton for Parker, Malik Rose, and Antonio Daniels once Parker started killing in the 2001 summer league. I mean I'm happy as they didn't pull the trigger on that, but could you imagine anyone scoring on a starting lineup with Payton, Bowen, Duncan, and Robinson in that 2001-02 season? I think the Spurs get through LA with that team, and probably Sacramento too. Not that one le would have been worth all the incredible years Parker has given us.
All this talk about Don Harris on the radio just reminds me of the pop show and how it's gone now
The plan was always get Kidd to play next to Tony. Hmmm. It would be interesting to have seen which would be the more successful pair. Tony and Kidd or Tony and Manu?
Ah crap forgot about the Pop show! My favorite Spurs show was the Roundtable which Kori was often a part of, as well as the Thompson Brothers.
i miss the Pop show it was like all of pop's hilarious responses to dumb questions wrapped in 15 minutes
