If he is interested in us, it is only because he sees we are about to win a championship, something he never will.
the Spurs want Hibbert or Jefferson
all the rest are
yea that would never happen...
What's next? Laughing out loud? In my opinion? Quoted for truth?
Shaking my head...
2 years ago? yes. Now? no.
yeah I would pull this trade without even thinking about it. Manu can take a veteran's min if he would like another ring before retiring or just let him walk. Obviously signing Dwight Howard probably means that Tiago Splitter won't resign unless he cares about winning and is willing to take an enormous pay cut. DH12 would become the focal point of the offense in the post and Tim Duncan can take a David Robinson roll and be the anchor of our defense in the interior.
Could this be the reason that Tiago played much better last Tuesday? Dunking here and there? Nah...
Howard > Splitter in terms of skill, but with Howard there's emotional baggage. Also he's a bit undersized.
Actually, from what Bruno put in his thread about salaries, even that's not enough. The Spurs would also have to hope Diaw opts out, as roster charges would take away a couple of million from the cap room. Right now, the Spurs have about $38.5 Million guaranteed (counting Bonner's million). The cap will be at $58.5 Million. So as of right now, the Spurs don't have the room.
Add Howard with Duncan, Leonard and Green, you instantly have the best defensive in the league and the best defensive Spurs team since 2004. If Howard expresses interest to play on your team, any GM worth his salt would make sure a deal gets done. But it's a pipe dream at this point because the Spurs won't have the money.
Screw that crybaby jackass.
I'm not a fan of Dwight Howard, but him signing with the Spurs would be crazy. If he'd listen to the coaches, I'd be all for it.
Rofl, if Howard expressed legitimate interest, obviously the Spurs should pursue him. He'll have to commit pretty fast though because the Spurs have to renounce Splitter's rights. Howard has his weaknesses but is still a 3 top center when healthy. He's a little immature but I don't think he's cancer like Stephen Jackson. A good coaching environment and shooting coach would do wonders for him.
Since Stan Van Gundy basically copied Pop's blueprint in building a team around Howard, the Spurs already have the perfect coach for him.
Too bad the rumor is from Hoopsworld. That probably means Howard has zero interest.
Mother er can't even shoot FT's. Had all season to improve, yet he didn't. This dude doesn't understand that skill isn't something given its earned. You have to work hard during the season and off-season. Timmy is a prime example of improving your game each year.
would he sign a vet minimum? if yes then i'm all for it.
We take this le and no telling what sort of goldmine we may reap in free agency. Dwight Howard is probably much too expensive for what he brings. Kobe amnestied and available for vet min could be nice.
Who else?!?
Thanks anyway, but nah.
Dwight is a pre-madonna. There's no way he would ever be a Spur.
The Spurs have a list of "Could be Spurs". Dwight is not on that list. It doesn't matter how good he's perceived to be. He'll never play for Pop.
Howard has already said he doesn't want to play in a pick and roll system
If we're gonna take on a guy with baggage as the next great big man for the Spurs....give me DeMarcus Cousins over Howard. Cousins is gonna be an absolute beast...he just needs a guy like Pop to straighten his head out. Cousins would cost less and have more years to build around.
Nothing to lose pursuing howard, if it doesnt work out hes world class trade bait
We should just count our blessings we won't be the idiots doling out a max contract to DH soon...
Howard pre-injury was a top 3 player in the league. He may not reach those lofty heights again, but he's clearly a max player.
He could also single handedly extend Duncans career an extra 2 years.
