the thing is simple, he wanted a multiyear contract and he wanted to play for a contender. Opting out is like betting on yourself, but when that actually happened, the teams that were interested in him, couldn't afford him, once he saw that he wouldn't get what he wanted, he decided to opt for the most money available with a contender, if the case was as you said, than he'd take a multiyear just so it wouldn't look so obvious. Again, opting out is like betting, Kirilenko lost this time, and that's all that there is imho.
NBA will do nothing about it, and it quite the opposite actually, they only want to lick Prohkorov ass hole, they see him as good for the NBA business wise, they want to make him happy, that's why David Stern block Pierce and Garnett move to the Clippers so they could go only to Nets, that's why they would not do nothing about the AK situation, NBA has goal to make Brooklyn Nets champs!
True, it's over with.
Also, how much $$ is the NBA going to make off of the Nets luxtax penalties? I know some gets dispersed among the under cap teams but a percentage of that has to go to the NBA FO.
