They allow you to make unlimited transfers in a gameweek, without paying the fee. Good for when a team plays multiple times in a Gameweek (e.g. Chelsea last week) or when you need to replace a lot of players for whatever reason (suspension, injuries, underperforming).

You get to use one WC now, and you get another WC after the new year.

More than likely, I'm going to use my wildcard after GW 3 during the two week international break. Might have to bring in RVP since Man U are playing Crystal Palace after the break. Very favorable schedule for him coming up to score goals.
