If you're in one of the bigger Mexican cartels you are legitimately part of the biggest drug empire in the world. The US is the biggest drug market and Mexico conveniently borders that market so foreign drugs have to be funneled through Mexico and the cartels control that. The es leaving in squalor and death are the ones who disagree or otherwise get in the way of the cartels. Mexico doesn't have many college grads but the ones they do have, who do you think employs them?
