Taking Tim out means a lower chance at a rebound but a better chance at contesting the three (or a lower chance at giving up a wide-open three). The plan when up 3 with very little time left is to switch every screen. Tim doesn't have enough lateral mobility anymore to do that. If it was only about rebounding, Pop should have put all bigs in there, right?

You gain a slight percentage of getting the rebound by having bigger players in, but you give up more of a chance of giving up a wide-open shot too.

About Bosh: he is a three-point threat. He beat the Spurs in San Antonio last year (regular season) with a three. The Heat had 5 three-point threats on the floor so Pop had to counter with 5 guys that can guard the three-point line.
You can put the best lineup to contest 3pt shots in but there's still a chance the shot will go in. In fact that chance is very high. Contesting 3's doesn't drop the percentages as much as they do with field goals.

However if the shot does not go in there's 100% chance you will have to rebound the ball. So to reduce your chance at rebounding the ball for gaining a slightly better ability to contest 3's doesn't make sense. Now it's different if the plan was to run them off the 3pt line.

Joe Montana made the niners, not Walsh.

Jordan made the Bulls, not Jackson.

we get it, and we all know Duncan is the franchise. no need to make a thread over it

Anytime people talk up Pop as the GOAT coach, I always wonder why they conveniently forget about him getting out-coached by Avery ing Johnson. And he had homecourt advantage during the series too. Inexcusable.
