Lets bs real. Timmy is getting anywhere between 4-7 rings, NO MATTER WHERE HE GOES

Pop is lucky he had Timmy.. thats all there is about it. I give credit to Pop... he is a hybrid of Thibedoux and Don Nelson... but he's no Phil and hes no GOAT. .. top 4 (phil, red, pat/pop, He also subbed out the GOAT PF in the closing seconds of a FINALS game which cost us the series.. Phil would never do that, bruh.

Most experts. including myself, feel like Pop subbed out Timmy on purpose, in an attempt to solidify his greatness over Timmy.. it backfired and now we all pay the repercussions.

Yeah he's no Phil. All Phil had to work with was Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Shaq and Kobe. Those guys wouldn't have ONE ring without Phil. , if Pop would have coached those guys nobody would have heard of them.

    And one.

But then again, overcoming Manu in Game Six was a tall order.

I love Manu, but some of those turnovers were so bad I questioned if he was throwing the game.

Subbing Tim out was the right play. Anyone who tells you differently is trying to sell you something.

So did I. It was either epic collapse or willful destruction... Completely out of character to be that bad for that long.

I did say on this site that I thought Pop subbed Timmy so he could put his thumbprint on the series, and to add to his overall legacy in the game. I don't necessarily now if it was to solidify his greatness over Timmy, I think that is a little much. But I do think he wanted a piece of the pie, and it cost the team greatly. But it's in the past now, it's over. The Spurs lost and there is nothing we can do about it. That's reality.

Taking Tim out was the right decision the way that doubling down on 11 in blackjack is the right play when the dealer has a 5. One bad result, even at high stakes, doesn't make the decision bad.

So when Pop had done the exact same thing 10 times during the regular season and once against the Warriors in the playoffs, he was trying to add to his legacy then too?

It worked 9 of those 11 times.

It doesn't matter how well you contest the shot if you don't get the rebound. Especially since 3's of offensive rebounds are the most difficult to defend. The defense is scrambling and the offense has the advantage. The Spurs should have got the rebound no ifs or buts. No rebounds, no rings. Pat Riley knew it. The way you get the rebound is by putting your best rebounder out there. Even if you could excuse Pop for taking Tim out when they went with 5 shooters there's no reason he should have been out when Bosh went back in the game.

Also another factor. You can do your best to contest a 3 pointer but it doesn't affect the percentage as much as with closer jumpshots. The best way to defend 3's is to run the players of the line. If you know a 3 can tie you don't allow 3's.

That's pretty much why PJ > Pop. He understood regular season and playoffs are not the same thing. If the playoffs were the same as the regular season Pop would probably have more rings.

Taking Tim out means a lower chance at a rebound but a better chance at contesting the three (or a lower chance at giving up a wide-open three). The plan when up 3 with very little time left is to switch every screen. Tim doesn't have enough lateral mobility anymore to do that. If it was only about rebounding, Pop should have put all bigs in there, right?

You gain a slight percentage of getting the rebound by having bigger players in, but you give up more of a chance of giving up a wide-open shot too.

About Bosh: he is a three-point threat. He beat the Spurs in San Antonio last year (regular season) with a three. The Heat had 5 three-point threats on the floor so Pop had to counter with 5 guys that can guard the three-point line.
