If Van Exel picks #31...to which he has the right...he will have some built in haters even though they support his team. All over a number.

I hope he picks #31, just to weed out the fake fans, I'll be honest, he's a good player and all, but I never really liked NVE, but now that he's wearing the right colors, he gets my support!

It should be 51, since his ancestors are being stored in Area 51.

I say he picks 40, which is the age in years of his celebrity look-a-like, Todd Bridges of "Diff'rent Strokes".

He wore 31 at U of Cincinnati. 31 seemed to be taken with teams when he arrived where he chose a different number.

LA Lakers - veteran Sam Bowie had 31.
Golden State - Adonal Foyle already had 31.
Portland - Sebastian was already wearing 31.

This is deductive reasoning only...but it would seem Nick has worn 31 when it was up to him.

So the Spurs should give him #31. It's not like it's retired or anything. Besides, It's only for one year!

    Disagree. Haters? Because of Malik?

Bro, Malik is overrated. Nobody outside of sc.com gives a rats ass about him. Dude is no longer a Spur.

    Malik is old news.

I don't think that #31 is retirement worthy, but it may be a little early for people to stomach someone else wearing it. I don't think that NVE has some diehard love for that number, so I don't think it's an issue and it's certainly not worth potentially rocking the boat over.

Why? Again, people aren't stupid. Everyone knows that Malik was overrated, overpayed and out the door.

Dude is no longer a Spur, get over it, move on.

I hope he gets 31 and someone else gets 6.

    What? The #31? Shoving it?

WTF.. Malik doesn't own that number. Malik doesn't own on the Spurs.

Malik is one of many who played for San Antonio, no more and no less.

Because he has restaurants here and lives here, he is a part of the team now or worthy of a number retirement?

    Woopty ding dong do.

Time to move on.... o.... Ding... Ding.......

I won't fuss if Nick does choose the number 31. As it has been said, he would be within his rights to do so.

My only point is that since this is a fresh start for Nick, he might consider to choosing a brand new history-less number ( Spurs wise) to make his own.

    history-less?

Again when did Malik rewrite Spurs history?

Where does this crap come from? I don't see it.
