From what I've heard, Oberto play's like a soft, Euro version of Tony Massenberg, with slightly less athleticism.

I'm going with Saraunas Jasikevicius. From what I've heard and seen, this guy's basically a Steve Nash clone with better defense. And as good as Tinsley is (he was considered an All-Star snub by many), if Saras lives up to half the hype he could be starting before Christmas.

My darkhorse is Danny Granger, the best player in college basketball last year. His overall game is sick, to the point where people have compared him to some combonation of Scottie Pippen, Tracy McGrady, and Shawn Marion.

yeah if Saras stays healthy he will start for sure; he is an unbelivable passer and a 3 point sniper!

It almost always depends on which player gets a starting job on some team. You don't get ROY if you're on the bench. That considerably narrows the field.

My guess is that Bohut will start and therefore will win over Harris and Granger.

there is something else, rookies that are not real rookies get less consideration for this kind of awards. Just look at Nocioni's situation last season. He didn't even make the second team. Moreover he wasn't even called for the rookie game in the all-star weekend despite having pretty good numbers compared to some other players, ha.

My bet as well. What's with the choices. Not that I'm a foreign basher, but no Americans. For those to be the choices, you overlook several really good players.

Well he won a gold medal for Argentina during the most recent Olympics for starters.
He won it for them... or he was on the winning team? Manu won that le... not Oberto.

I think it will be Marvin Williams. If the Hawks get 30 wins this season, and he is a big part of that, I think he can take the award.

It's called a team effort, Oberto defended the paint like no other player in that tournament. If you call Oberto soft, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Oh, and Fabri pwn3d Jermaine O'Neal in the 2002 World Championships.

I didn't call him soft... and I never claimed to know anything about him... this started from me inquiring about him. You say he owned JO... it is possible... but I doubt it was as bad as you just made it sound. Plus... Oberto is on JO's playground now (in the NBA)... so we'll see how he translates... but I have no doubt he could be phenominal... the Spurs are excellent at getting over seas talent... best of luck with him.

If Oberto did win that would be bad for the Spurs since it would mean someone good would have been injured for most of the season, otherwise he would not get enough playing time to be in the running for rookie of the year. That is why I wouldn't even mention Jason Maxiell, he has the talent to be rookie of the year but won't get enough playing time since he is playing behind Wallace x2, McDyess, Dale Davis, and Darko Milicic who they are going to force feed minutes to in hope he has a good season.

Sorry if I posted very few options, but appart from Bogut, I don't have much knowledge on the College players. I know better the overseas picks or players who will be "false" rookies like Oberto, Jasikevicius or Macijauskas.

Yeah, I don't blame you.. but the fact is... an high pick is going to win. Who knows who, but I bet it would probably be someone with a lottery team.

    Raymond Felton.

Not only is he by far the better NBA PG prospect than Deron Williams or Chris Paul, he's a flat-out leader.

He's got a great frontcourt to help him look good defensively and will be playing the passing lanes, utilizing his superior quickness. I wouldn't be surprised if he tops 2spg as a rook.

He's going to beat every PG off the dribble. His first step is unstoppable. With this, he'll create a lot of scoring opportunities and prolly rack up big numbers in the process.

His shooting isn't great, but Kidd has shown that if you can consistantly beat your man off the dribble, it doesn't matter.

My guess, 14ppg, 7apg, 4rpg, 2spg on 41% from the field and 42% from range.

Paul may average more points, but he won't have the all around stats.

I'm predicting 30 wins for the Bobcats. I doubt Charlotte nets 25.

I believe the following cast would be better to chose from...

    ATL - Marvin Williams*
    BOS- Gerald Green
    CHA- Raymond Felton*
    CHA- Sean May
    DEN- Julius Hodge
    GSW- Ike Diogu*
    HOU- Luther Head
    IND- Sarunas Jasikavicius*
    IND- Danny Granger
    MEM- Hakim Warrick
    MIA- Wayne Simien
    UTH- Deron Williams*
    TOR- Charlie Villanueva
    TOR-Joey Graham
    SAS- Oberto
    POR- Martell Webster*
    POR- Jarrett Jack
    NYK- Nate Robinson*
    NOH- Macijauskas
    NOH- Chris Paul*
    NJN- Antoine Wright
    MIN- Rashad McCants*
    MIL- Andrew Bogut*

I really believe that this was the most overall loaded drafts I have seen in years... no one really stands out as head and shoulders above everyone... ROY is up for grabs this year. I put asterisks next to my favs to win it.

I am not sure what I think about Bogut yet... he got dominated in a summer league game by his only real NBA compe ion he faced... and that was by the #30 pick from the previous draft... David Harrison. Harrison scored 16 points in 15 minutes against Bogut... Bogut was ejected from that game cause he got aggrivated over being a slave to both David Harrison and a total abomination named John Edwards.

Please. If you're going to pimp somebody from the Pacers, it should be Danny Granger. Jasikivecius can shoot, but comparing him to Steve Nash, as somebody did earlier is like a Spurs homer comparing Oberto to Willis Reed.

Calling Oberto soft shows just how ignorant you are, or that you are simply a troll; perhaps both. We welcome posters who are fans of other teams here, but if you want to be taken seriously and valued as a contributer to this forum (like several Suns, Pistons, and Lakers fans are); come with a real take that shows a modi of thought. Otherwise, you'll be quickly added to most people's "ignore poster" list.

Voting for Oberto is just stupid. Bag on the indiana homers as much as you want but it is slightly hipocritical.

I'm going with Chris Paul he'll get plenty of playing time but he's kinda small and may not make it the whole season, and my long shot is Sean May. I know Sean sucked in summer league but he's big and will get plenty of playing time as well.

Sean sucked in summer league play?

He led the Rocky Mountain Review in scoring and rebounding.

16.5 - 9.2 isn't bad for a rookie. I remember some bad games, but overall, he did well.

    My top 5
    Felton
    Bogut
    Paul
    Diogu
    May
