Leonard is going to exponentially be a better player by going through the Spurs system. Pop is making him develop parts of his game that he wouldn't have if Spurs just cut him loose from day one. Hopefully KL gets this and will stick around. He'll be a better player for it.

I think he does get it. What were his words to Pop when they won? "Thanks for pushing me." He wants to be great, and he knows he's got the coach to help him do that. Pop and Chip have been working with him doggedly, a lot of film of Jordan and Barkley. You can see it in those post moves...

ITT: People who know more about basketball than Gregg Popovich, but aren't making millions coaching because it wouldn't be fair to the other teams, they'd see my fedora and just forfeit

This has nothing to do with how the team played. Obviously Leonard is a team player like Manu and tim so he didn't whine and sulk when Pop limited him offensively in the last two years..Instead he played the best basketball he can.

The point of this thread is that prior to this year, people thought the system helped him score 13ppg..While more knowledgeable fans knew he was a 20 ppg in a system that doesn't limit him offensively.

even this year Pop still limits him.
The "system" allowed KL to blossom into the offensive force he is becoming. Coming out of college KL was known more for defense and rebounding than scoring. The "system" allowed him to work on his offensive game (getting easier shots) by taking pressure off of him to score. There is a system in place in San Antonio (whether you want to admit it or not) that includes ball movement and sharing the basketball and when it is working everyone benefits, including KL.

He realizes the team will pay him and has already made him lots of money by developing him into the player he is today. On another team, he would have ended up making the same cash on his rookie deal but had he not been developed properly he may have been looking at half the contract $ he'll be getting next year.

But the people with blinders on believe he could have been a 20 ppg scorer by year two ... He's a special player, but not a prototypical player that would have necessarily flourished under all cir stances.

Just rest easy that nobody will ever wear #2 again after him and we're lucky that one of the most fun players to watch in the league for true fans will be locked up for many years to come.

Yeah I remember how Posters started to claim that Kawhi was nothing but a defensive player since he can't handle being a go to guy..

But major Props to Tim and Tiago though..They have learned how to play with kawhi as an offensive option..their spacing at times is still pretty bad, but Tim and Tiago are the two guys that had to adjust their game. Tim had to give up touches, plenty of them..His usage rate is has been reduced significantly with Kawhi's new role in the last 20 games.

Parker is really the only one who hasn't adjusted his game..and he's played awful because he's too much of a me me kinda player.
Lol, this coming on the heels of Parker setting up Kawhi over and over during his 15 point run. All while Kawhi has what 1 assist.

Actually caring about raw assists in 2015 when they're known to be padded by the team statistician

Yah it's sad/embarrassing. What makes it worse is Kawhi is actually a really good player. His individual merits alone would warrant his accolades, but these guys have to pretend like the big 3 don't contribute anything, especially Parker (naturally, because they view him as Kawhi's greatest "threat" because he leads the team in scoring and assists, runs the offense, and is a perennial All-Star/All-NBA player and also a FMVP). Rather than acknowledge Parker's credentials they have to literally pretend like leading the team in all those categories means nothing and that outplaying Lebron and embarassing the Cavs in 2007 means nothing, even though Lebron put on one of the greatest performances of all-time the series before to knock out Detroit.

Except he didn't mention Parker's assist numbers. He was pointing out that Parker repeatedly passed the ball directly to Kawhi. Reading comprehension is your friend.

Lol you guys will do cartwheels to get away from reality. And what does it matter? I just said he was the team leader. You think the team statistician has a bias towards Parker and so he doesn't count Kawhi's assists? Is that why we never see Kawhi with many assists?

If it wasn´t for the Spurs Leonard won´t be the player he is.
That is undebatable and i am sure Leonard agrees.
This is as obvious as the fact that the op is not banned only because we just don´t take him serious.

Also it's funny to see Kawhi ascending to a highly productive two way player. I remember everyone sucking off PG last year and claiming Leonard was not on his level because he couldn't shoulder an offensive load. Meanwhile Kawhi wins the FMVP while PG gets owned by the Heat and then breaks his leg...

And @ casual fans that think Butler has on Kawhi. I wonder what kind of numbers Kawhi had if he played in the east on a mediocre team with a green light to do whatever he wants

again a re argument from OP

Spurs system is making him a max player, dude won a FMVP, a ring and is in position to win another one during Spurs tenure... Silly argument to say Spurs / Pop is holding his development

He is developing pretty good tbh

Who are all these "Kawhi haters" that CN, apal, and dabom are talking about? I want names.....

TGY and hater.....who else? 95% of the posters here love the guy, want him to get the max, want him to stay a Spur for life, and will admit that he's our most important/best player.

Again, I want names. @ the people who think the majority of people on this site hates Kawhi.
