But who will deal with the champs?

Only a fool would make a good team better, which reminds me, I need to make a call.

Spurs have looked intensivly into trading Barry for the past two weeks. They knew about the possibility of this situation. I'm not sure if I want to sign Devin at the moment. Utah holds the 2nd year option, which means, more than likely they will pick it up. How good will Devin be in 2 years? Where do you think he might go? Hmmm....Sean Elliott, Detriot? Ring any bells? Devin does remind me of Elliott in some sense. Devin plays for the Jazz for a couple of seasons, becoming a consistant player. After 2 years, he comes back to San Antonio, when we will need him, for oh, I would say 4 million per year.

I though about this possible deal with New York and Cleveland.

    San Antonio Trade Breakdown
    Outgoing

    Radoslav Nesterovic
    Brent Barry
    Beno Udrih

    Incoming

    Aleksandar Pavlovic
    Maurice Taylor
    New York 2nd round pick
    Cleveland 2nd round pick

    Cleveland Trade Breakdown
    Outgoing

    Eric Snow
    Ira Newble
    Luke Jackson
    Aleksandar Pavlovic

    Incoming

    Radoslav Nesterovic
    Brent Barry
    Beno Udrih
    Trevor Ariza

    New York Trade Breakdown
    Outgoing

    Maurice Taylor
    Trevor Ariza

    Incoming

    Eric Snow
    Ira Newble
    Luke Jackson

    a) We get in Maurice Taylor an expiring contract for next season and 2 second round draft picks. And Pavlovic as well who has lot of potential. Moreover, between the difference of Rasho, Barry and Udrih with Pavlovic and Taylor there is a difference of 2,2 millons, enough to re-sign Devin Brown.

    b) If Cleveland trades Snow they would get Udrih to be behing Jones. besides Barry could play pg as well. Moreover they would get a center that could be good if given the chance in Rasho and Ariza that would replace Pavlovic in terms of potential.

    c) New York would accept this since they had been looking till Brown joined New York to get good defensive players with Snow among the list. Snow-Newble would be a very good defensive combo besides they wouldn't need to give much in return.

I don't think Zeke is that stupid and Cleveland needs exactly none of those players.

A trade like that would improve both Cleveland and New York.

and there is something else, if Marcelo Machado finally decides to sign with Cleveland with a trade like this there would be more space for him to play. However, i heard before he thought Cleveland's offer was the best because there was an open spot open for him in the pg position. That should have changed now that they signed Jones.

Cleveland definitely does not need Rasho and his contract backing up Zydrunas Ilgauskas.

Actually, Rasho's contract is similar to the one of snow but a bit higher so that wouldn't be a problem

That does nothing for New York. Ariza and Nate Robinson are going to get some pretty heavy burn. They won't let one go and throw the other behind Eric Snow.

Well, Brown was thinking about moving Marbury to sg. And he said several times he was interested in Snow and that he wanted to bring him to New York. In addition to this a change of atmosphere could be good for Luke Jackson to do everything he didn't as a cav.

    San Antonio Trade Breakdown
    Outgoing

    L.A. Lakers Trade Breakdown
    Outgoing

    Devean George
    Chris Mihm
    Brian Cook

    Incoming

    Nazr Mohammed
    Brent Barry

    Successful Scenario
Due to San Antonio and L.A. Lakers being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. San Antonio and L.A. Lakers had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

That is another idea that just came up to my mind. In that deal we would save $ 787.325 filling one spot more in the roster.

With that deal we would get Mihn that can not only play c but pf and has 2 years of contract with pretty good salary. George is expiring besides he could adjust to the spurs system. And Cook would be there in case we have an injury. Moreover he could be a backup to give a similar game as Horry does as pf.

In this deal Lakers would get a better center in Mohammed and a very experienced guard in Barry. Moreover Barry would be perfect for Jackson's system as he likes using big pgs that can shoot and also distribute the ball.

why the would SA ever help LA like that? Give them Nazr and Barry so we can match a 2.5 million dollar offer for Devin Brown?

I know this phrase gets thrown around a lot here, but I've gotta say:

    Dumbest. Trade. Ever.

lol, Chris Mihn could actually be a very good fit and can play pf so that would help Oberto to be able to play more time as c. Besides even if they don't re-sign Brown, financially, it woul be a great deal. Good enough to even keep Rasho and secure next year off-season.

Lakers wouldn't be a threat besides we still have the LLE. We could sign some good player for 2 seasons making sure that ge can get some minutes. Someone like Kapono.

With 2 those 2 moves the team would look like this:

    Center
    Rasho
    Oberto
    Mihn
    Marks

    PF
    Duncan
    Horry
    Cook

    SF
    Bowen
    Kapono
    George

    SG
    Manu
    Finley

    PG
    Parker
    Van Exel
    Udrih

That way we would be younger, maybe even better and next season Marks, George, Van Exel and Finley (if he signed to a one year deal) would be free agents.

Last evening on the 10 PM WOAI TV Sportscast with Don Harris, Don finally shed some light on the Devin Brown decision by the Spurs. He said that he had spoken with the Spurs "tonight" and that the deadline for matching the Utah offer sheet was actually at 3PM on Friday. He said the Spurs will not match the offer, so it looks like Devin will be a member of the Utah Jazz.

KABB's Chuck Miketinac had reported a half-hour earlier that RC Buford had been out of the country the past few days and that apparently nobody from the Spurs had contacted the Jazz, Devin, or Devin's agent about their intentions.

Regardless, it appears that the deadline is today at 3 PM CDT and (according to Don Harris) the WILL NOT MATCH the offer sheet.

This report from the Deseret Morning News in Salt Lake City supports the Friday deadline

Jazz camp in Boise, hopefully with Brown

    By Linda Hamilton
    Deseret Morning News
The Utah Jazz — who should learn today if the San Antonio Spurs will match their offer sheet for restricted free-agent guard Devin Brown — have announced they will hold their preseason training camp at the Taco Bell Arena on the campus of Boise State University in Boise, Idaho, starting Oct. 4.
The Jazz will hold daily practices in Boise Oct. 4-7, with the workouts closed to both public and media.
They hope to have the 6-foot-5, 26-year-old shooting guard Brown with them after signing him to a two-year offer sheet last week. The Spurs had seven days to match the Jazz deal, which was reportedly for $2.5 million this season and slightly more for a second year, which would be at the Jazz's option.
The seven days is up today.
San Antonio recently signed Dallas free-agent shooting guard Michael Finley and already has Manu Ginobili, Bruce Bowen and Brent Barry who can play at that position, in addition to Brown. The Spurs will be into luxury-tax territory, meaning it could cost them almost twice as much as the Jazz offer to keep Brown, who is a full-time San Antonio resident but was born in Ogden and still has family there.
Brown will hold his own relief drive Saturday in San Antonio for victims of Hurricane Katrina, said his agent, Darrick Powell. Powell said Brown will donate his own money, ask for matching contributions from corporations and take donations of things like disposable diapers and milk from the public.
"If Utah Jazz get this kid, they're getting more than a basketball player," Powell said. "This guy has done a lot in the community, especially with the kids and family. He's very adamant about that."
Utah's first preseason game will be played at the Air Canada Center on Wednesday, Oct. 12, against the Toronto Raptors. The Jazz will then travel to Indiana to take on the Pacers on Thursday, Oct. 13 at Conseco Fieldhouse. On Monday, Oct. 17, the Jazz will play the first of two home preseason games against the Phoenix Suns at the Delta Center.
Utah will then embark on a three-game road swing to meet the Portland Trail Blazers at MacArthur Court in Eugene, Ore., Thursday, Oct. 20; the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Pond in Anaheim, Calif.; and the Rockets on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Toyota Center in Houston.
The Jazz will close the 2005 preseason on Friday, Oct. 28, at the Delta Center vs. the Denver Nuggets.
JAZZ NOTE: Another free-agent guard in whom the Jazz have had interest this summer, former Memphis player Earl Watson, who signed to play for the Denver Nuggets for their $5-million mid-level exception contract on Wednesday, turned down an offer from the Jazz, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal. The Appeal also said he rejected a $20 million offer from Orlando. The Jazz reportedly did not want to give Watson the full MLE, and other teams had indicated he was too expensive, which he disputed in the Appeal. "None of that was ever true," Watson told the paper. "All I ever wanted was something close to the midlevel or the midlevel, and to play for a team that had an upside." His agent is Dan Fegan, with whom the Jazz have had difficult dealings in the past.

marcus, that's one of the dumbest trade ideas I've heard in a while.

So, you want to make the Lakers stronger, Spurs weaker, and all to overpay our 12th man?

Dumb. Not to mention George is a scrub, Mihm sucks a fatty against any decent pivot in the West, and Brian Cook shows up about 12 times a year.

    No thanks.

Oh well, sucks to lose the hometown kid, but I guess we've seen this coming all summer. Personally, I'd rather have Barry over Brown anyways, and not just because I'm too damn lazy to change my avatar. Devin's a great guy, though, and I wish him the very best in Utah and hope he gets the playing time and recognition he deserves, and wouldn't have gotten playing here.

At least I managed to pick up a few vBucks on this deal. Helps to ease the pain just a tad.

Man Marcus, you're pretty dead set on keeping Devin Brown. I suspect you may in fact BE Devin Brown the way you're willing to revamp the whole damn lineup just to keep him here. Devin's on his way out. I'm not happy about it (personally I wanted him more than Finley) but it's just the way it is. Why can't everyone just accept this?

Amen. Look, Malik actually played. Devin would costing San Antonio more than Rose did and be stuck on the end of the bench.

Think about it people... 5 million dollars for your 12th man is pretty stupid.

Think about this: letting a 26 year old swing go who fits your system and has a great at ude go with virtually everyone else on the bench at the 2 and 3 spots either aging, under 1 year contracts, or both is pretty stupid.

being cheap. Don't we want good basketball decisions?
