The motion offense is predicated on the ball beginning on one side of the floor to the other side. A big that can set screens but still has the ability to get to the rim or shoot the open J forces the other teams big to follow thus creating a lane to the basket that can no longer be defended. This open lane must be closed by opposing players sagging to help defend. Players that are sagging on D now leave perimeter players open for open shots from the three point line. When players are sagging to help with D they also turn their backs to their designated man they are guarding thus losing sight for split second. Ball movement after initial penetration forces opposing team to now switch players defending. An offensive team that can now move the ball around the perimeter or can cut to basket has the advantage to get an easier look thus increasing field goal percentage.
This is one of many possible scenarios that can occur when the motion offense is utilized. There is even great reward for using this type of offense when the offensive team possesses a PG that has the ability to get to rim or make a pass to another open player. Fortunately for the Spurs, and thus one of the reasons Spurs offense has been able to evolve in the past ten years is that they not only have a PG than can do this well but they also have a sixth man with similar ability.
That's great and all if Parker would actually pass the ball.

You might be right about Parker, but it's the constant posts and new threads like this that are the legitimate cancers.

Stop spamming so much, and just use one thread only or something for s sake..

our offense wasn't the problem tonight. we shot 57 goddamn percent ffs. we scored 103 points, which is usually enough to beat anyone.

    the problem was on defense.

The way NO was hitting their shots I don't think anyone could have beaten them tonight. It's one loss out of what...last 13. Not a big deal. Yes they lost home court advantage but that one loss could have happened anywhere in their 12. I still think this Spurs team is playing the best basketball and should be favorites to win.

I don't know about them being the faves to win it all but they are definitely considered. I would say GSW are the faves because of HC and they were solid this year from beginning to end pretty much but the Spurs have to be up there spite the loss tonight. They played great for the last month or so of the season, fact.
