Kobe won't retire....but will play a reduced role for less Money...he will still be a draw...and even at 36 there's no one that can stop him 1 on 1

Laker fans better hope so (Kobe fans may not care as much, which is fine). I can see Kobe sticking around if he has a good, healthy year and the draft pick performs well. Maybe not, but we will see. But FA is huge for LA - always has been. Will be interesting to see what they do with this cap space.
Come on Deep.. what is this... amateur night at the Apollo? Kobe has gotten the most out of his body. The one thing that made him great he no longer has... which was explosiveness. He had a nice run... dominated his era, got filthy rich... and its time to say goodbye.

I don't know what is funnier, Kobe taking less money or that no one can stop him one on one. Kobe has railed against the idea players should take less money to build winners. He has taken his stand and if he goes back on that....wow.

I agree - but we are talking about Kobe. The most ego-tistical greedy player we have seen since Jordan. He loves money, thinks he's still worth it (basketball wise) and if he has a good season, I can see his compe ive juices flowing (and Kobe fans demanding).

It won't even get close. He's going to realize its over before training camp. Kobe could barely practice these last few seasons... now he's coming off of back2back season ending injuries. Its over. I'm looking to the future.

    So Lakerfan, riddle me this...

Does Kobe avoid leading his team to a franchise-first 3 straight lottery seasons or do you make the playoffs next year?
Lakers aren't going to be a bottom 3 team next year and even if they are, they're not guaranteed a Top 3 pick (See Knicks). It's time to develop the rookies and let the chips fall where they may.

I liked Clarkson, but people seemed to feel the same way about Kendall Marshall when he was putting up numbers. He was great this year, but are you really trusting that? It could work out, but I think he's hard to bank on. Julius suffered a bad injury and who knows with him.

The point is, they have no franchise cornerstone and even if you count Clarkson, they have no real young talent to get thrilled about. That can change with a home run draft pick, but that's dicey. They are LA and have tons of cap space potentially, so we will see. Lots of work and the FO has been shaky for a while now.

Initially I thought Clarkson will be traded but with a Top 2 pick, I'm confident they're going for a big man in this draft which fits the Lakers mantra anyway, unless Russell completely impresses the Lakers during workouts.

The beauty of this draft is it gives the Lakers a clean slate, I agree they have no cornerstone as those players are historically hard to come by but having 3 prospects in cheap contracts gives the franchise direction and appealing pieces should the opportunity like an established player becomes available in the block.

Handling the cap is still the biggest question mark. If they skip Rondo and fight the urge to extend their ties with Kobe, we're on the right track again.

Minnesota is believed to prefer Jahlil Okafor, per JerryZgoda,
which could leave Karl Towns for the Lakers at No. 2.

Man, Towns @ # 2 would be amazing...

Congratulations. I know the feeling of getting a Top pick after a miserable season. I personally think Russell has the highest ceiling and will be an automatic All-Star (high scoring guard, flashy plays etc) but you can't go wrong picking a big man.

Bull , Kobe won't let anyone succeed while he's on the roster. He's not walking away and leaving money on the table, nuh uh... you're stuck with him for 4 more years.

As long as they don't extend Kobe, the Lakers are in an amazing position. Clarkson, Randle # 2 pick, and tons of cap space.

FA acquisition this summer is going to be a key. If Buss screws up and signs Rondo then we're in it for another long haul...
This. I appreciate what Kobez has done for us but its time to move on from him. He's done man

Countdown to next le....3 years! As long as it is before the Celtics win another one (or are gifted another one by the refs) and I am good with it.

Finally some hope again in Los Angeles.
Dude, just go back on LG, maybe some user named Beppa Joseph or his or her mother will ride you hard as you are used to.

lol wut... big men taken in the top 5 in recent years:

    2014 - Joel Embiid
2013 - Cody Zeller, Alex Len
2012 - Anthony Davis, Thomas Robinson
2011 - Enes Cancer, Tristan Thompson, Jonas Valenciunas

only davis has shown top 5 value... jonas and tristan are nice players, but if you're expecting a franchise changing guy, yeah, you can go wrong
