Spurs offense is going to be wild. Especically if SA can land a decent guard/shooter. So many options with so much spacing. I really hope TP didn't decline and that is was just injuries because with this spacing he should have a mega-resurgence.

He shot %35 last year, and %42.5 from the left corner 3, which was pretty much the first time in his career he started using the 3 on the regular, he's only going to get better at it and it will expand his longevity. I'm sure his 3 point shot was discussed in the meetings with Pop.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciated all the guys lost but Splitter lowlights are plentiful and much more fun to watch in the rear view mirror. Belli couldn't guard anyone, and though he and CoJo were gamers the money they were paid it's too bad they didn't go to contending teams because it would have hurt them.
And we still have a bunch of roster spots to fill.
agreed. It's not like Splitter was Kwame Brown. He stopped Dirk, Griffin, Zbo, and Aldridge in the playoffs.

Splitter is a huge defensive loss, but not enough to make the 2nd ranked D in the NBA last year fall off significantly..
1 great defensive player(Tiago), 1 average defender(Baynes) and 1 horrific defender(Beli) lost, and they aren't adding any below average defenders to replace them..not to mention everybody will be able to conserve more energy for defense with all the offensive weapons on the roster..
Having Danny/Kawhi keeps the Spurs from falling off too much.
The way I see it we only lost 1 legit defender in tiago so the spurs should be okay, imo. Also LMA is a bit underrated on defense, tbh.
It takes more than 2 players to play team defense. The Suns had Marion and Raja Bell and their defense still sucked.
Well, if you are comparing those two to DPOY+Green+Duncan, then sure.
They also had Amare "guarding" the paint and D'Antoni on the sidelines. Two totally different situations.

I hate losing cojo. Tho he was hit or miss, his energy was plentiful in great spurts. It was almost contagious sometimes and the perimeter defense would ante up. Whoever is signed next needs to have a motor to defend and/or be a shooter.
Reasonable fans can appreciate what Tiago meant to the 2014 champs AND think that acquiring Aldridge is an upgrade.
That's not an either/or proportion, particularly since Tiago's effectiveness in 2014 was mostly about slowing Aldridge, who the Spurs no longer have to find a way to stop.

Splitter is an above average center in the NBA. Aldridge is a top 10-15 player in the league. Huge upgrade but let's not go too overboard.
Without Tiago Splitter they don't get out of the first round vs Dallas. They don't get out of the second round vs Portland, and they don't beat Miami either. Splitter was huge against Miami off the bench. The biggest reason they lost to the clippers was not having a healthy splitter vs Blake Griffen.
Saying Splitter was a good finisher seems to be pushing it.
Career shooting percentage within 3-feet of the basket:
Tim Duncan - 69.5%
LaMarcus Aldridge - 69.5%
Tiago Splitter - 67.7%
Not much of a difference between the three.
Make that from 0-9feet now. Also add that duncan and lma are first options semi volume shooters play big minutes and are doubled and triple teamed sometimes.
Not only that we also have manu lma pnrs manu west pnrs with spacing from patty danny and bobo.
Going all homer Spurs fan for a moment, a few things that I liked seeing...
- Aldridge bullying Ibaka in the post, finally
- Watching those bull fadeaways from 18ft that the Spurs have never really had from there bigs
- Those passes from the horns. I've never really seen that from him and Tiago was an excellent passer, nice to know the Spurs aren't losing much there
I will say as a few others have that Tiago was treated harshly in that video. I thought he was a solid post player and this guy really underrated Splitters passing.
