Westbrook isn't the one who killed the Spurs, it was DJ Augustin and Dion Waiters that killed the Spurs.

But if you want an expert strategy, I'd say that not switching in the last four minutes of the game would have been a great ing idea. When defensive player of the year and greatest coach in sports can't figure out how to keep Tony Parker from checking Kevin Durant -- repeatedly -- in the last minutes of the game, you've got a problem. Teams have been beating the Spurs at the end of games by forcing the switch for quite a while now. Why haven't they figured out how to prevent it? You can chalk up the inability to secure a defensive rebound to bad bounces or lack of aggression, but making sure not to allow them to force a switch over and over and over again seems like something they would have talked about beforehand.

The defense against Kanter in the 2nd half and Waiters down the stretch were the more egregious defensive issues, tbh..
I would make sure Aldridge is on the floor whenever Kanter is, especially if Kanter is playing center. Diaw/West can't guard Kanter, while Aldridge should be able to. Meanwhile, Aldridge should own Kanter offensively.

Might mean against the Thunder bringing Diaw or West off the bench early and having Aldridge swap in for Duncan around when Kanter is inserted.

Rotations will be figured out. Only 1.2% of the way through the season.

You don't need to go all out stopping RW. He'll do that himself and in the process he'll stop Durant. You just have to keep the ball in Russell's hands, deny the pass, make him an MVP. That cancels out Durant who's mentally weak and doesn't mind standing around scratching his nuts while Chaka runs roughshod all over the goddamn court.

Teams up by trying to match Russ' intensity and you're not going to, nor do you need to. Spurs play meh... and still had to make a bunch of stupid plays and turnovers to give OKC a fighting chance. That's with Russ going King Kong on the rim.

Durant was defended as well as possible, tbh..

There was no strategy against Russy, Pop didn't care in the 1st game of the season..he had Parker defending him for virtually the entire game, recipe for disaster and a bad position for TP to be put in..

The defense against Kanter in the 2nd half and Waiters down the stretch were the more egregious defensive issues, tbh..
Pop killed 2 birds with one stone. He got Tony interested in how out of shape he is, embarrassing him like that, and allowed Russ to take every unnecessary chance in the world of tweaking his knee or ending his season with some D-Rose type explosion to the rim or down the sideline (its going to happen, you cannot run sans brakes at his size and not eventually lose a spring or coupling).
