Yeah all the pollsters got it wrong, but Silver got it a lot less wrong than everyone else, this election doesn't hurt his credibility at all.
Regarding the popular vote argument, it's somewhat misguided since Trump wasn't campaigning at all to win the popular vote. If he had spent time and money in states like CA or NY the popular vote would have been a diff story. The bottom line is that Trump and Hilary were campaigning to win 270 electoral votes and he did a better job than she did.
With a little help from Comey perhaps...remember that all it took was a 1% turn in the electorate to turn this election....
With a lot of help - more money, better ground game, better data operation, media, establishment, corporations, academia on her side.
Nate Silver isn't a pollster. He's doing analysis of the polls and putting them into his projection models.
