Even in an ugly loss like game 4 he improved. And did it again tonight

Spurs can't afford to sign a top PG with Parker/LMA/Pau contracts if Gasol opts to stay...That will give DJ a ton of minutes after TP's injury.

DJ's length will really help defensively. One of the things I think has hurt TP over his career defensively is his lack of length.

He's way ing skinny. I like his length and quickness, but better teams will learn to go at him. He'll put on some muscle.

Agreed. Unless we miss on CP3, no reason to max out 30yr old point guards like Lowry or Gerge Hill

Let him grow next year. 2018 is when we'll have tons of cap to buy everyone.

He's got plenty of work to do but he didn't shrink under pressure and that's hard to find.

Love his speed and long arms. He should make an all defense team some time in his career.

Simmons is sooo gone, but I hope we can keep Dedmon somehow (also agile and long arms).

Murray-Green-Kawhi-Dedmon is such a fun foundation, beeing a top ranked defense every year. (just need to fill in a defensive pf).

Simmons would be wise to stick around and carve a place in the rotation OR he can get paid by some scrub team and go way of Gary "choo-choo" Neal.
cp3 and Lowry tbh.... Start Murray and sign Patty
I would like to have Simmons and Murray and Patty back. I believe PATFO will work hard to find a way to keep them, and that will be the focus of the off season.

Simmons is a RFA so teams will have to (1) lock up cap space to sign him to an offer sheet and (2) hope the Spurs don't match. Unless it's a stupid amount of money, it's not a foregone conclusion that he gets crazy interest from teams. Not a ton of cap space like in prior years.

I think Spurs will offer him something reasonable in hopes he sticks around. Because he's only been around two years though, the Spurs don't have full Bird rights but have early Bird rights so can offer him slightly more than the MLE without having to hit cap space. A crazy offer well in excess of this and he's gone.

He's still very green in my eyes. Flashes tons of potential at times, other nights he makes more mistakes. I'd say the upside is definitely there and he's had some big games for a rookie who wasn't really expected to provide anything this year. It'll all depend on how he develops but you'd think if he develops at all he's gonna be a heck of a player.
the thing is...he isnt gonna get better if he doesnt play...we need to have the same faith in him that we had in parker...because as i keep stating, murray was more talented than parker upon entering the league, the difference is that Parker started from the beginning on the season, and we had to put up with his growing pains for the sake of getting him better faster...same needs to happen with murray next yr...give him the keys

This is Kawhi's team but when you see DJ out there his body languange is that of "I'm the new HOTS" and am not saying that in a bad way. Just that instead of sweat, what his body expels is 100% pure confidence. This is something you'll never be able to say about LMA no matter how well he plays.

I loved seeing DJ (isn't that what Pop called him in the post game?) get better over the games since Tony went down. Both Simmons and DJ lacked confidence, Simmons especially. Simmons was letting the system play him and we saw flashes of Simmons with confidence in the RS against GS but he played like he's afraid to piss Pop off 95% of the season. I hope last night's Simmons and DJ are here to stay.

DJ looked totally overwhelmed in his first start and much of his second, but this game where the Spurs were such heavy underdogs allowed them to play without fear because the expectation to win wasn't there. DJ put up 11 pts/10 rebs/5 assists/2 steals/1 block/1 to on 50% shooting and again lead in +- with +33. To be a rookie in a closeout game and do that is phenomenal! Granted some of that cane in garbage time, even though Harden stayed in. There is no rookie left in the playoffs doing close to what he is doing.

Here's what I like about DJ:
    1. Defense- his willingness to defend is where his opportunity begins and he doesn't foul
    2. Size- he's a long, smooth, 6'6, that's just his penis, but his body is great for a point guard
    3. Best ball handler on the team. Kid can dribble
    4. Penetrator- why do these all sound sexual?
    5. At ude and work effort

    Where he needs work:
    1. Shooting- his shot isn't broken just not great yet. We all know the Spurs can teach this and his work ethic is there
    2. For all his handles he dribbles too high but even over this series showed the ability to improve there
    3. Like most young players gets lost defensively sometimes, this is all experience
    4. Body- he's built like the Iceman, which may not be much of a con as long as he doesn't get hurt. I don't care about size as much as him staying away from injury

Becoming a better shooter and understanding the NBA game defensively and physically are achievable in the Spurs organization. I'm very excited to watch this kid grow!

Spurs basically have him locked up on his rookie deal out through 2020, don't have to worry about paying him for a while.

And he's going to be the starter next year, no way around it (unless Patty comes back for a manageable deal). But even if Mills comes back, kid will be getting plenty of run.

Seems like George Hill got more rookie PT than Murray. Furthermore, Murray got hurt at the worst possible time, totally re ed his development.

solid take. CP is the only FA i'd consider and partly because it would put yet another mentor into the mix for murray.

I think he has the potential to be a Manu type impact player, meaning whether he's scoring, passing, rebounding, making defensive plays, he will find a way to make an impact no matter what. Plus he seems to have that not afraid of the moment mojo that only certain players have.

I was really hoping we'd be able to steal Mike Conley away, but I'm starting to like the idea of Mills/Murray as our PGs if we can keep Mills
