you dont remember the shortened 3-point line experiment ? In an attempt to open up the lane and allow for higher scoring games the NBA shorthened the 3-point line.

Reggie Miller is not a lock for best three point shooter ever. Don't confuse most prolific with the best.
Went over 100 3-pt FGM for the 15th consecutive season, a NBA record

The all-time NBA leader in 3-pt FGM ended the season with 2,464 3-pt FGM

He's the league's all-time leader in 3-pointers made and attempted, and nobody else is even close. He stands 12th on the NBA's all-time scoring list. And when you look at guards, he ranks third, behind only Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson.

Sure Reggie Miller is a prolific 3 point shooter, the question in this thread was who was the best. Reggie's expertise and experience in that area speaks for itself. I'm not factoring in number of championships won, etc. I'm looking at individual career 3 pt shooting.

yeah exactly. Theres no doubt he's the most prolific. But it's not as clear-cut when asked about the best. No doubt he has a very high clutch rating, which makes him possibly the best. But Kerr's percentages are SICK! Sicker than reggie's.

We aren't talking just about clutch shooting though, That was my point. I thought the question was the best 3 pt shooter ever. Sure his clutchness in a tight game plays a factor, but I was looking at it from the course of the player's career.

Anyways, it doesn't matter, because I am sure our top 3 are the same, just reshuffled a little.

    1) Reggie
    2) Bird
    3) Kerr

    To each her/his own.

Ofcourse Kerr's percentage would be sick, he didnt shoot much threes. Guys like Bird and Reggie would bomb away from the outside all night.

reggie being able to get off get open and make more total threes may be due to him being an overall better basketball player and athlete

In other words, imo, based on statistics, if Kerr and Reggie had a three point shooting contest, I'd put my vbookie on Kerr.

If Re can do it in the Association, then I can give him props. As far as college shooters go, IMO, he is one of the best ever.
AMEN. I used to watch him in warm ups jacking up threes from the halfcourt circle... and he was making them with ease

That doesn't even make sense! First you're crediting Reggie Miller for getting open and making more 3's and being a better overall bball player. Then you say that in a 3 pt shooting contest, you'd put you're money on Kerr?

Wouldn't whoever made the MOST 3's win a 3 pt shooting contest? And you already said that Reggie is better able to get open and MAKE more 3's......

    What's not to understand?

Three point shooting is what's in question here, and all that involves is standing behind a line, shooting the ball, and making the shot.

Getting off more 3 pointers involves more than that, and no doubt reggie was capable of getting off more 3 pointers, cuz he was played more, cuz he was a better all around player, probably for a load of other reasons too

These have no effect on the type of 3 point shooter he is though.

Wouldn't whoever made the MOST 3's win a 3 pt shooting contest?
No, not necessarily. My opinion would still go towards percentage, given that player takes and makes a decent number of threes.

And you already said that Reggie is better able to get open and MAKE more 3's
Yeah, cuz he's a way better basketball player than Kerr.

If we are talking best 3 point shooters as in "who would make the most threes in a contest" I'd put my vbookie on Kerr.
If we are talking best 3 point shooters as in "who made the most 3 pointers in a real game" then no doubt reggie owns.

Its not Reggies fault he's more athletic than Kerr. & 1 other thing Kerr is a set shooter, therefore he'd have a better chance of winning a 3 point shootout.

My fav play of the game...the 3 point shot! In your opinion who's the top 3 three point shooters of this bunch, or if you have time you can just arrange in order from best to worst of the bunch. Sorry if I forgot anyone....

    Kerr
    Bird
    Peja
    Miller
    Houston
    West
    Pistol Pete
    Rice (Hornets days)
    Ray Allen
    Person
    Dan Marljie

You can add anyone you like to the list.
All these guys are great, but lets give some credit to the home of the 3pt shot--the old ABA. Indiana had a guy named Billy Keller who could shoot it from anywhere. He personally beat us in one game when we led by 7 pts with 11 seconds to play.
