this should have been happening his whole presidency
Should have, but actually fortunately did not.

I said in another post that if Trump had had his social media disabled at the start of the pandemic, he may have been re-elected. Sure, the covid response and his press conferences, and certainly the first debate showed it as well. But months and months worth of ridiculous tweets really revealed to the American people what kind of unconscionable sociopath he truly is. Not alone, but I believe his tweets were a big part of his election downfall. And it was still close, so if those tweets just got a small percentage of anti-Trumpers to vote, thank God they didn’t censor his tweets earlier in his presidency.

I wonder what the solution is?

The easy criticism is that these people are just "dumb," but it goes beyond that. Plenty of people who would score well on IQ tests behave irrationally just the same. Raw intelligence doesn't necessarily confer the ability to recognize your innate biases and weed out disinformation. An example is Nobel Prize winner Michael Levitt, whose opinions on the pandemic are about as dumb as a Trump 's opinion on politics.

I think the primary barriers to rational thought are pride, ego, and a stubbornness to concede beliefs because you don't want to give the "other side" a victory. And this at ude is symptomatic of a deeper American sickness that prioritizes "winning" above all else. It's precisely why Trump got elected.

My solution is that we need to expand the concept of "education" beyond just having students learning by rote from textbooks. We should emphasize to children in their formative years the ideas of humility, introspection, and not to fear failure, that "losing" is okay if you learn something. That cliche of "It's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game" needs to comeback en vogue.
The primary barrier to rational thought is religion - "faith" is by definition irrational thought, the idea of believing something when you have no logical or rational reason to do so.

The solution is Democrats need to learn how to talk to these people. Stop telling them they need to go to college and recognize the fact the electorate wants America to shift to the right on immigration. No one wants to hear Elizabeth Warren talk about how she wants to give free healthcare to illegals when Americans whose families have been here for 100+ years don't have healthcare. Democrats are headstrong on the issues that polarize voters (trans , immigration, abortion) while they have no convictions on the issues that are popular (climate change, $15 minimum wage, etc.)

People will hate me for this but I also say overturn Roe v. Wade.

    Very solid take.

I'll just add insecurity and the need for some people to find a leader driving and giving a meaning to their existence. Kind of an Alpha-beta thing.

That's very similar to what happens in sects where you can find intelligent, educated adpets who will suddenly believe whatever charismatic wacko convincing them that he'll bring them to Sirius to accomplish their destiny.

I probably should've added fear to the list of barriers. It's these barriers that allow religious ideas to take root in someone's mind. Now I want to clarify that "religious ideas" doesn't always mean belief in a "sky daddy." I think Elon Musk has a more irrational set of beliefs than the Pope. To me, the Pope is an eminently more rational individual than someone like Musk because he at least allows humanistic principles to guide his thinking and overall worldview. Musk is a sociopathic oligarch with a silly mentality that reads like bad science fiction.

But I'm not necessarily talking about the extent of someone's religiosity, I'm talking a general irrationality in people that prevents someone from reflecting on the validity of their ideas. I'll return to the Michael Levitt example. He continues to double-down on his idiotic covid takes despite being proven wrong again and again. And his opinions are doing real damage because he's drummed up a significant following in the covid truther community. Because he's a "noble prize winner," they use him to legitimize their opinion.

Where I'm going with all of this is that I think primary education needs to teach students how to think in terms of analyzing your own biases and not seeing the exchange of ideas as a compe ion. The type of people who the dems need to learn to talk are so entrenched in MAGA, blind patriotism, and a staunch belief in capitalism that they'll just double down rather than concede to the "evil dems." And yeah, while I don't agree with your Roe vs. Wade idea, I understand the logic in repealing it, so they'll have little excuse of why they don't vote for the "baby killing" democratic party.

And you know I agree on the dems not making "woke " a core part of their platform.

the parallel with Hindutva strikes me

And yet, in town after town away from the metros, in village after village, especially in ‘red’ heartland America, very comparable in its policy affiliations to India’s Hindi heartland, people in the worst-affected places, states and counties have come out in greater numbers than ever before, and voted for Trump, their confirmed tormentor.

Overturn Roe vs Wade and we'll be back to the crime rates of the late 80s. The Republicans are always going to have a wedge for white evangelicals to cling to so they can pretend it's not race.

Holy , wearing a Blue Lives Matter flag while dancing to a song about the police being white supremacist murderers. The Deplorables really are the most low information voters I have ever seen.

they are feeling the song so hard. It's probably a QAnon anthem somehow. Reminds me of the Reagan campaign's using "Born in the USA."

OAN is carrying the A-Team news conference in Philly.

Rudy says there are half a million fraudulent votes in PA alone.

The reporters just told him all the news outlets called the election.
