iverson has numbers. but shooting % sucks and team record could cost him mvp
Iverson shoots a higher % than Dwyane Wade, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, Steve Nash, Gilbert Arenas, Dirk Nowitski, Ray Allen, Jason Richardson, Antawn Jamison, Chris Webber, Larry Hughes, Chauncey Billups, Sam Cassell, Joe Johnson and the exact same FG% as Manu Ginobili, which is ing amazing considering how efficient we all know Manu is.

Please don't post bull , especially when you areway off, like in this case.

The only way Duncan wins is if the Spurs win an obsene amount of games, because people will argue that there is too much talent. But if the spurs win 5+ more than other teams they will have to give it to a Spur.

When teammates improve within a team-chemistry environment, individual awards are harder to come by. Ask the Detroit Pistons about who the MVP of that team is. With the emergence of Manu last year, and what looks like Tony Parker this year, there will be other players on teams that need that player to carry them that will get more attention. It in no way diminishes the value Tim Duncan has to his team. But, I think it would be a tougher argument over the likes of LeBron James, Allen Iverson, Dwyane Wade, Dirk Nowitzki, and even Marcus Camby.
Agreed. However if the Spurs own the best record at the end of the regular season and win 63+ games, I think Tim has a good shot at it.

if you take a second and read what you are about to post, you may find yourself seeming more intelligent. i think you could waste less time thinking about more pertinent things, like how are the spurs going to get their second line defense up to par, how long ginobili's ankle will take to heal, etc., instead of musing about an award given in june. if you thought at all, you would realize we have hardly played any of the season at all, and at this point projecting the entire season after not even a quarter of it is played is pointless. the nba has the longest season of any major professional sport and anything can happen between now and may/june.
So you are a self appointed authority on sounding intelligent. LOL!

If you want to discuss how long Manu's ankle will take to heal, why not ask Mrs. Cleo? Unless you are his doctor, or Manu himself, talking about what it will take, or how long it will take to heal, is as much speculation as discussing how Tim will finish in the MVP.

The Mrs. Cleo joke aside, I acknowledge the discussion about Manu's health is revelant to the Spurs success this year, and is thus a valid topic of conversation. As such, Tim's level of play and his pecking order in MVP race are also revelant to the Spurs success this year, and is thus a valid topic of converstation.

As I said in the previous post; If you want to talk about a subject on the board, talk about it. If you don't find interest in a subject at hand, just move on to a topic you view as revelent without acting like you are an authority on what is important or interesting to others.

To me, that would be the intellegent and civil way to conduct yourself.

    Agree?

TD MVP???? No Way. As of right now, he's not even the MVP of the Spurs, let alone the league.
    See:

My choice for both would be Tim Duncan who has 8 straight all NBA les, 3 championships, 2 MVPs, 3 finals MVPs and has led his team consistently to a high winning percentage. In fact, according to Sean Deveney of the Sporting News, "the Spur’s 0.702 winning percentage during that span is the highest of any team in major pro sports.” (http://www.sportingnews.com/archives/nbafinals/)

He also is David Dupree’s early season choice (and mine) for anther MVP award, despite only playing limited minutes compared to other NBA superstars. In my ranking, I factor in the fact that Duncan tends to get better as the season continutes and is also a superb defender. USA TODAY subjectively picked 10 early-season MVP candidates and ranked them in five statistical categories that encompass formulas to measure every facet of the game.

Duncan's scoring (21.7) and rebounding (11.9) averages are below his career numbers of 22.5 and 12.2, respectively, but he is playing almost four fewer minutes a game than his career average of 38.2.

He is the only player, however, to be in the top five in Dupree's categories (see his article cited below for details) in the index — and most importantly, his team wins. There's no question we are who we are, and we are where we are because of Tim Duncan," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich."

Tee NHL plays an 82-game regular season as well and their regular season lasts a month longer, from the start of October to the middle of April, when the NBA regular season ends as well.

We said MAJOR professional sport, hockey or whatever they call the changed high scoring pansy ice skating derby these days doesn't cut it. Just a grade above soccer IMO and a shade above the WNBA!

While I agree that Duncan double teams are the reason Parker's getting such good looks, Parker is still the one making the shots in clutch time, while Duncan's struggling to find his shots.

Parker has won several games for the Spurs at this point in the season. Duncan is starting slow, like he always does. By the time the All Star game rolls around, he'll be MVP form again, but right now, Parker is keeping the team at the top.

Still without Duncan this team would be the Lakers or worse. (How fun is it to slam that team!)

Big hole, but I think Pop insistence on playing defense, plus the other talent now would make Spurs a lot better than current Lackers.

TD MVP???? No Way. As of right now, he's not even the MVP of the Spurs, let alone the league.

He could win the MVP, but it will require him putting this team back on his shoulders, and TP not overshadowing him.
I can understand how someone who has not watched the Spurs for Tim's entire career, might get confused by what makes a real MVP. , scratch that. Even some Spurs fans who have been here from the beginning are clueless when it comes to really understanding the game. Since you emulate them, let me help you with your hoops knowledge.

To help me teach you more about fundamental hoops, let me bring up a fallen champion. Most on this board will GLADLY agree, the Lakers are now one of the most pitifull teams the league. When I used to bother chatting up hoops with Laker fans, often in 2002, 2003 and 2004 the discussion of who was the Laker's MVP came up. Knowing the game, I talked up Shaq and the many ways the big fellow impacted every aspect of the game. Many of the clueless, those who knew all they would ever know about hoops from Sports Center, were stuck on Kobe, citing his great ability to hit a big shot once and a while.

With ... and without Kobe, Shaq has been very deep in the playoffs with three different teams. Without Shaq, Kobe is on the road to nowhere ... again.

Think about the story above, and THINK why anyone who knows anything about the game would pick Parker as the Spurs MVP over Duncan.

The Spurs have many great players, multiple who can carry this team stretches. But don't get confused, and lost with the clueless. There is only one engine pulling the TD Train, and that is Tim Duncan.
