The magas will be happy electing more maga GOP members but will cry after getting screwed when GOP privatizes their en lement programs (e.g., health care and social security).
As long as their enemies get hurt worse, they’ll accept the suffering like Russians do.

Though that Russian tact came in a mighty handy in II., eh, Stout? Whilest we were doing wet work from 30k against Yellow people, Russia was massacring White Nazi's by the droves. Russia's reward? We created our MIC and made them official Boogeyman ever more.

It was either that, or, we were going to render Rand & McNally billionaires for being forced to make new maps without Russia, eh, tights?

But, we chose wisely, made a fortune, even made Biden go out there to Dover with his watch. tee, hee.

At the end, both the populist emergence manifested under Trump, and the progressive uprising pulling the Dem coalition apart are the outcome of the loss of faith in classical liberalism. Neither side believes in it anymore. Since that idea was the foundation of the United States, that means the USA is over. The right has redefined it as a nation-state, while the left has redefined it as an illegitimate settler-colonial en y worthy of demolition.

Only inertia holds the country together, and the forces rising against it are overcoming the inertia. There will be tyranny one way or the other; the only question is which side ends up in the gulags.

Well, you wouldn't let Trump be President, after he'd made President. You figured, and wrongly that's he'd run off, cussin' ya's, but run off afraid of being blown up, or, his head separated from his body. No. Uh, uh. Now you got problem that will not end even when he goes to the grave.

You picked the wrong mother er to with, Stout. And those two blooded boys ain't forgettin' either. I know I wouldn't, not if it cost me my life.

    lol

they THINK that they will get some kind of “prize” for being loyal….

there has never been a dictator in world history that assumes power and then somehow treats anyone fairly

this is why they have to scare the masses, lie to the masses, con the masses, radicalize the masses-

to steal power they only acquire when ENOUGH RE S fall for their con…
afterwards- them all - they were stupid for falling for it and the dictator probably hates them as much as anyone else because there is one thing and only one thing a dictator has inside

    hatred

what else is he going to do but act out and spew whatever is inside him?

I don't need a prize. I'm righteous, so is the old man. It's my deliverance. And his finest hour.

Oh hey a "both sides" appearance.

99.9% of the time from someone who thinks they're in the middle but really leans solidly to the right

USA is importing foreigners from hardcore Conservative nations at a faster rate than raising home grown Liberals. Same is happening in Europe. The end game is clear...

I'll argue it's not inertia, it's democracy. The idea that you can change course via direct participation, be it at the local or federal level. On that count, only one side still thinks democracy is working for them.

The real problem here isn't the loss of faith in classical liberalism. Realistically, that hasn't existed for at least half a century or even more.

The problem is what I call 'traditionalists' (ie: picture of Alito goes next to the dictionary definition) are seeing the end of the rope. It's a subsection of conservatives that not only never contributed anything to the progress of America, but specifically took pride in erecting roadblocks.

Several factors contribute to their inevitable demise, including the advances in science, the slow but steady irrelevancy of organized religion, the continued mutation of this nation from largely rural to largely urban, among others.

When you see the end coming, you get desperate, and most of them don't really care if the world burns. This is how we ended up with what can only be described as a flaming, life-long liberal taking over the conservative party.

But what happens when even that doesn't work? Which ties right into your very apt Pinochet commentary.

Democrats have a much different discussion. It's not existential, it's much more about direction, and how much can you really push towards a given boundary while not alienating the center/independents.

Good/bad is in the eye of the beholder. Individuals personal background, current situation, and goals/priorities.

I have my preferences but I don't ultimately believe or view my counterpart as a bad person. Aren't 1/3 of voters flipping every few elections.

    I'll boil it down...

    Trump President.
    Not Clinton.
