How has this guy done anything to deserve a roster spot on this team. I get that we needed a vet pg that's unlikely to get minutes. And yes we lost 2 guards in the trade and gain one in the draft. But that one guard we got in the draft is going to get over 25 mins a game. Anyway, I don't know his game because he rarely played for our tanking team after Fox was side lined. So I don't get it. But I don't understand his game. So its ignorance.

Surprising to see how many people who post on a Spurs message board didn't seem to watch many of the games last season.

If you wanted to sign a better player for the 3rd string PG position they’re going to want more playing time or a longer contract. If you’re finding a guy willing to sit at the end of the bench and be ready whenever called on a one year deal, this is the kind of player you get. I’d rather have this then have us give a longer contract to some player who is going to be morose about not getting minutes behind Fox and Harper.

If he was a post Wemby injury guy, I took a break after the Wemby injury honestly.

Hey so is this guy tradable before the start of the season?

Yup, you need a competent guy who's not going to complain about time, just be ready.

What is his skill set. Can he come in and spread the floor but has defensive weakness? Is he a vet floor general with no strengths? Is he a pesky defender with a poor shot?

Rather have kept Blake Wesley even if I think Jordan is better. I thought last year how McLaughlin was basically debatably a very loose composite of Braham and Wesley if you wanted to consolidate roster spots.
Wesley can‘t shoot or make lay ups. Spurs are trying to make the playoffs. They also couldn’t have gotten Olynyk without Wesley being in the trade.

0% chance Lonnie would ever come back to SA under any condition.

He signed with the lakers like 10 seconds into free agency and his agent asked the spurs to not pick up his qualifying offer.

He got jerked around the most in the "let the vets play to get another nba contract" year when we had derozan, lma, patty, rudy, and marco

Don’t mind it. Spurs clearly need a 3rd string PG behind Fox and Harper (Castle doesn’t count).

Career 37% from 3 and 4:1 AT ratio. Good enough.
    why not?

J-Mac was buried in a PG logjam last year behind CP3, Fox, Castle and Wesley and didn't get to showcase his abilities much. He is a very good CP3 (at 40) replacement this year, IMO. Can start in a pinch and provide 3Pt shooting, playmaking and some steals. A good 10 minutes player to have..a la Cory Joseph in 2013/ 2014 or Speedy Claxton/Steve Kerr in 2003.

Now if the Spurs can get Alec Burks as a Vassell-backup and sign David Jones-Garcia to a 2-way.. they would be set. Here's hoping DJG lives upto his good start to the summer league and showcases more chops at Las Vegas.

Shooting is his best skill. ~40% from 3. Knows where to be on defense and can set up your offense. He's small and not very athletic, so he's limited in his effectiveness.

Good signing for the vet minimum, IMO. He's solid as far as 13th men go.

I'm guessing Carter still keeps Number 11 since Jordan "wasn't on the current roster" at the time?

Exactly right. One-year emergency PG is the role, whoever takes it knows that going in.

Not a great mover, not a bad move, but a solid move. Funny how former 1st round picks Branham and Wesley are gone, but JMac is still here. Apparently he showed something the spurs FO liked.

The former firsts would’ve up for extensions, and it would be awkward when they weren’t offered one.

It would have probably been more awkward if they were offered extensions. Its the wizards concern now. We'll soon see if the spurs made the right move.
