It uses a bajillion little mirrors. The only problem is that if you hit the tv hard enough, the mirrors can fall out of position or break,etc., and you will end up with a black spot.

So in practice, is it better or worse than plasma or LCD?

You can get a DLP projector and screen for less than a grand and have 100 inches.
