Especialy considering that there have been car wrecks resulting from papparazzi chasing celebrities - what a dumbass.
Exactly. Princess Diana was the first thing I thought of when I heard this story. They thought it wouldn't happen to them, too.

"Today I had a horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi while I was with my baby. Because of a recent incident when I was trapped in my car without my baby by a throng of paparazzi, I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger. I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us, and took photos of us which were sold to the media. I love my child and would do anything to protect him."
Do you actually believe she said or wrote that?

This is about more than her bring a celebrity. If I saw some Joe/Jane Schmoe driving with a baby in their lap you better believe I'd call the cops or stop them myself.

I think she was in the wrong. Even if you have a big SUV another car can hit you or other wierder things have happend. Blowout and rollover, animal and game on road.
California.. could be a 8.0 any second...

Edit: Thinking about it. Let me tell you a little story.

A friends relative was in an accident here in San Antonio. He drove from his apartment to corner store to get beer and got T boned. Paralyzed from the neck down. No seatbelt got him thrown out. The store was maybe 300 feet from his apartment.

So even if you THINK you don't need a kid seat or belt wierd can happen.

You people are way too harsh. I'd hate to be a celebrity. Growing up, it was almost normal for kids not to be in a car seat.

What kind of celebrity? A sports celebrity? I'd have no problem there. Making three times what a doctor makes and being on the IR all year long.

A movie star? Well, depends, a celeb making 10 million a movie or 2 million a movie?

    it, either will do.

A music celebrity? Well, that's a sticking point. 20 cents on the dollar for every album sold or 40 cents on the dollar. it, with royalties and TV deals and eventual movie deals... you making a good 10 million a year.

Yeah, I too would hate being a celebrity.

That is so freaking ridiculous. We were talking about this on another board.

The window is down, she's smiling and laughing. Apart from the obvious strap the child in after you are already in the car - why didn't she hand the child to her bodyguard if she was so frightened? Not that that is much better, but driving with two hands is more likely to keep the child safe than driving one handed with a squirmy four month old on your lap that you have to restrain with your other hand.

It's stupid and thoughtless. But I guess her bodyguard was too busy protecting the Starbucks he bought for him to take care of the child.

But eriks, we also didn't have airbags growing up, and it wasn't typical, growing up, for the kid to be in the driver's lap.

If she'd hit anything, even a fender in front of her at 10 mph, that airbag could have killed her child, and if not would have burned him seriously. And if she had been followed and she decided to take evasive action, her son could have gotten a bad head contusion from hitting his head on the steering wheel.

I'd be less 'outraged' over the whole incident if the kid had been held in a seat other than the driver's seat. That is just stupid and irresponsible and makes for a much worse scenario than some paparrazi taking a few pics.

Yeah, that'[s true. Those airbags come out at 200 mph and pack a of a punch. I was in an accident and the accident itself didn't hurt me, but that airbag did some damage to my hand. To make thinsg worse, it was my remote control hand.

Common sense dictates that she screwed up and picked the wrong option. That being said, we weren't in her position or in her head at that exact moment. Nobody here has experienced the same paparazzi (sp?) stalking in the past that she has. The fear of what they could have done based on their past behavior toward her and others she has known may have had an effect on her quick decision to remove herself, her baby and the bodyguard from the situation first and then secure the baby a little later. I would imagine if she had thought it through she would realize it wasn't the smart thing to do for many of the reasons you guys have mentioned.

I'm surprised you are so obnoxiously flippant.

When I was growing up, there were no car seats but no one drove with infants on their laps. It's extremely dangerous.

And by the way, kids have died from airbags at an impact at 40mph.

Good luck to your future children. I hope your wife is smarter than you.

It's not a matter of being flippant, it's more of a matter of not caring. If it's my baby, I care, I'm just going to call bull on the majority of you people actually caring about Britney's baby. Because if that's really the case, there are about a million other bad decisions parents have made today across this planet. She made a mistake, there's no denying that. It's just stupid that I've read and heard people calling her a "stupid, ing " online and in class. Long story short, you people are way too harsh on celebrities.
